The Plainview Hale County Board of Health met Thursday
June 6, 1963, at Wayne's Restaurant, Chairman Blair
presiding.
Chairman Blair introduced the guest speaker, Dr.
Dorothy Long. Dr, Long reviewed the accomplishments
of the Health Department and complimented the unit for
the progressive programs presently conducted. She out-
lined the various areas of Public health work and
pointed out that the purpose of a public health program
is to provide those services the public and medical
profession cannot so well provide individually.
Dpr. Heye discussed mosquito control and active
participation by our unit in a program. Dr. Marshall
distributed letters from other counties describing
their efforts. Suggestion was made to envite news-
paper editiors and radio personel throughout the cou-
nty for lunch to discuss, and get individual views,
on the launching of a mosquito control district.
Meeting to be held within the next two weeks. The
suggestion was approved by the board. Chairman Blair
appointed Oliver Harmel, Dr. Heye, and Mary Wadzeck
to serve as a committee and work with Dr. Marshall
in formulating plans for the mosquito control meeting.
Chairman Blair welcomed Mike Kirk, new member
appointed to the Board to fill the vanancy left by
the death of Mr. Hardy Shelby.
Meeting adjourned. Members attending: Dr. Randall
Heye, Oliver Harmel, Edgar Brown, Mike Kirk, Ray Blair
Mayor Hood, Judge Abernethy, Dr. Joe Marshall.
