HomeMy WebLinkAbout93-296966 NOTICE OF Er,ECTION - PRECINCT 4 ORDINANCE NO. 93-2969 AN ORDINANCE CAIJ,ING AND SETTING THE DATE FOR THE SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ~r.RCTION; SETTING DATE FOR RUN-OFF ELECTION; DESIGNATING PRECINCT AND POIJ, ING PLACE; DESIGNATING THE Er,RCTION OF A COUNCILMEMBI~R FROM PRECINCT 4; APPOINTING ELECTION OFFICIALS; SETTING HOURLY RATE FOR ELECTION OFFICIALS; AND POSTING NOTICE OF ~CTION. Section 1: Election In accordance with the statutes and laws of the State of Texas, and the Charter of the City of Plainview, an election shall be held in and for the City of Plainview on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November, 1993, the same being the second day of the month, and all persons qualified to vote in said City under the Election Laws of the State of Texas shall be allowed to vote there. Said election shall be held in the polling place designated in Section 3 of this Ordinance, and shall be open from 7: 00 a.m. to 7: 00 p.m., and all electors shall vote in the voting precinct in which said voter resides, and the place provided for voting as designated in Section 3 of this Ordinance. Applications for place on the ballot will be accepted at the City Secretary's office from August fourteenth until September seventeenth at five p.m. Section 2: Run-off Election That in the event a run-off election is necessitated, said run-off election shall be held in and for the City of Plainview on December 4, 1993; as provided by the statutes and laws of the State of Texas; and the Charter of the City of Plainview, Texas. Section 3: Precinct and Polling Place That said election shall be held in the designated precinct within the City mud at the designated polling place within the precinct as designated by the Charter of the City of Plainview, Texas. SECTION 4: CounMlmembe~ to be elected fromm. That said election to be held on the first TUesday in November, 1993 the smme being the 2nd day of the month, for the election of one Counc~lmember to serve on the City Council for the City of Plainview, Texas as follows: 1. A Councilmember to fill Precinct Foun)n the City Council of the City of Plainview as designated in Section 9 of the Charter of City of Plainview, Texas. SECTION 5: gleetion Offi~l. Said election shall be conducted by the following presiding judge who is hereby appointed to hold said election. Precinct 4: Lester W. James Jr. Lester W. J~mes Jr. and Sue Douglass are hereby appointed as the election offic~sl~ of Precinct 4. Lester W. James Jr. shall act as the presiding judge of Precinct 4, and Sue Douglass is hereby appointed first alternate judge, to act as presidingjudge of Precinct 4 in the event that Lester W. James Jr. is for any reason unable to serve as such presiding judge. Sue Douglass is hereby appointed as the Presiding Judge of the Early Voting Ballot Board. It is further provided that the maximum number of clerks which shall be appointed to serve in said election, shall not be in excess of three (3) persons. 3 of 4 SECTION 6: Hourly Rate for lgleetion Offi~alR. It is further provided that the hourly rate for Presiding Election judges shall not exceed $6.00 per hour, and the hourly rate for Clerks shall not exceed $6.00 per hour. The compensation for the delivering of election records and unused election supplies shall not exceed an amount of $25.00. SECTION 7: Posting Notice o~ Election. Notice of said election shall be given by posting and by publication of a copy of this ordinance, at the top of which shall appear the words "NOTICE OF SPECIAL ELECTION". Thirty days prior notice of said election shall be given by posting a copy of ordinance in three public places in said City of Plainview, and in the voting precinct. Notice by publieations Shall also be made by publishing notice of said election in the Plainview Daily Herald, said publication not to be more than thirty days nor less than ten days prior to the election. SECTION 8: Ordinance to t~leetion of~_'~. A copy of this Ordinance shall also be served upon the election official who has been designated to hold the election.
