HomeMy WebLinkAbout93-2977Or~mance - YoUth~Comm~ss~on ORDINANCE NO. 93-2977 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PLAINVIEW, TEXAS, CREATING A YOUTH CO~ISSION FOR THE CITY OF PLAINVIEW. WHEREAS, the youth of Plainview are a valuable segment of the community whose ideas and perspectives provide unique insight into city issues and problems; and .WHEREAS, many decisions and policies of the City Council of the City of Plainview directly affect local youth; and ~EREAS, the City Council wishes to provide the youth of Plainview with an opportunity and vehicle for responding to current situations that affect young persons; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLAINVIEW, TEXAS: Section 1. A Youth Commission is hereby created for the City of Plainview. The goals and objectives of the commission will be to respond to current situations affecting young persons, and to develop solutions for problems, which will be presented to the Mayor and City Council, and other interested organizations. The Youth Commission will further work toward unifying the youth ot'Plainview into a positive force for the good of the community. Section 2. Said Youth Commission will act as an advisory committee to the Mayor and City Council, and other interested organizations. It shall consist of twelve (12) student members. Each Plainview Independent School District class of eighth, ninth, tenth, eleventh and twelfth graders shall have two (2) representatives on the commission for a one year term. Each of the two (2) private schools in the community will have one representative each, if the private school has at least an eighth grade. The private school representatives shall serve a term of one (1) year. The Human Relations Commission shall determine from time to time as to how these representatives are selected. A sponsor, selected by the City Manager from the city staff, will be charged with keeping the Commission focused on a predetermined agenda during regular meetings and assisting in reporting back to the City Council.
