The Plaintiew Hale County Board of Health met 14
January 1965 at the Alcove Restaurant, Chairman
Kirk presiding.
Dr. Marshall presented an outline of topics for
discussion:l. Mosquito Control -Judge Abernethy rev-
iewed legal requirements for the calling of an election.
Marshall Pharr reported on State legislation to reduce
ad valorium tax and suggested waiting for the outcome
of this bill. judge recommended deferring any action
on the District, suggesting the Mayor and City Manager
call a meeting, asking for a representative from each
town in the County. Also to include newspaper and
radio represantative,This would bring city officials
as well as the press in on the initial planning.
Mayor Hood stated plans were already being made for
a luncheon meeting within the next 30 days for the
purpose of discussing this and other mutual problems.
2. Dr. Marshall told of the recent visit
by Dr Hayes and. Hess to explain plans now being made
for permanent personel to work on encephalitis invest-
igation. Activity to start in 1965 and intensify in
1966.
3, Oliver Harmel reported on work being done
with gin managers to establish a convenient date for a
Migrant Camp Sanitarian Program.Other members of this
committee are Joe Mayo and Dr. Marshall.
4. Future palns for a Health Department
building were briefly discussed. All Board members
expressed the opinion that 1966 should be the year for
definate progress.
Dr. Marshall presenated cuarant bills..Oliver Harmel
moved bills be approved..second Edgar Brown..motion
carried.
Meeting adjourned. Members attending: Dr. Randall
Heye, Edgar Brown, Mayor Hood, Judge Abernethy, Marshall
Pharr Mike Kirk, Oliver Harmel, Zoe Mayo, Dr. Marshall.
