The Plainview Hale County Board of Health met in
a regular luncheon meeting, May 9, 1969 at the Al-
cove, Joe Mayo presiding.
Members attending: Edgar Brown, Ray D. Blair,
Sam Langford, Dr. Wagner, Mary Lou Truesdale, Oliver
Harmel, Clifton Marth, and guest Mrs. Clifton Martin.
Chairman Mayo stated that since there had been
no urgent business to transact for the past two
months the Board had not been called for a meeting.
Dr. Wagner advised ; no special problems within
the Health Unit -activities normal. He thanked the
committee for their visit to Commissioners Court
stating that he was hopeful of getting a nurse in
the near future. A dental and family Planning
clinic was starting in Hale Center.
Dr. Wagner expressed the opinion that with the
completion of the Migrant Housing Project on Date
Street work and services of the Health Department
would be coordinated.
Dr. Wagner futher stated that there was a po
ibility the Health Unit would not be adquiring a
new building in the near future and the need for
renovation of present facilities was urgent. The
present building was not only unsightly but tery
unsanitary. Ray Blair made the motion that: the
Mayor and Judge and Dr. Wagner work together to
look into possibilities of reworking the building.
Second Sam Langford..motion carried.
Current bills were presented for March and
April with the May bills, Sam Langford moved that
all bills be approved for payment, second Oliver
Harmelt.motion carried.
A Copy of the budget for the 1969-70 Health
Department was presented to each Board member. Sam
Langford made the motion that the Board approve the
budget as presented, recommending approval by the
City Council and Commissioners Court..second Oliver
Harmel..motion carried.
Mrs. Truesdale reported that Family Planning Clinics
were starting May 29th primatily in the south part of
the county, Resignation of Mrs. Dora Goheen had been
accepted and vacancy filled by Mrs. Morrison.
Oliver Harmel commented on the fine reception given
the committee representing the Health Department by the
Commissioners Court. He felt this was encouraging for
better relations with working out 1problems with the
Court in the future.
