The Plainview -Hale County Health Board met at the Far East
Restaurant at 12:30 P.M. May 20, 1971, with the following
present: Dr. Randall Heye, Dr. Ray Freeman, Oliver Hamel,
Sam Langford, Dr, Gerald Wagner, Mary Lou Truesdale, Clara
Neis, and Judge Henry Heck.
The minutes of the meting of April 8, 1971 were read.
Dr. Heye moved that minutes be approved. Oliver Harmel seconded
motion. Motion carried.
The minutes of the called meeting of April 28, 1971 were read.
Oliver Harmel moved that minutes be approved. Dr. Freeman
seconded motion. Motion carried.
A discussion prevailed on expenses for travel to Austin for Mary
Lou Truesdale as well as entertainment of visiting consultants.
Dr. Heye made a motion that travel to Austin and necessary enter-
tainment be under the supervision of the Director. Oliver Harmel
seconded motion. Motion carried.
Dr. Heye made a motion that people handling money for the Health
Unit be placed under surety bond. Dr. Freeman seconded motion.
Motion carried.
It was mentioned that the new legislative bill would require
action of the City to appoint a dentist member to the present
board. Also Judge Heck was asked to check on membership status
of Joe Mayo.
Dr. Heye made a motion that April, 1971, bills be paid. Oliver
Harmel seconded motion. Motion carried.
Oliver Harmel made motion that regular meeting date be third
Thursday at 12:30 P.M. and the place of meeting and agenda given
to members prior to this date. Dr. Freeman seconded motion.
Motion carried.
Dr. Wagner reported on the general activities of the Health Board.
He stated that in about two weeks we should have the final author-
ization of HEW Migrant grant, and as he understood it, the only
thing that will change if $500.00 for miscellaneous equipment.
Mary Lou Truesdale reported on the services for the month saying
they were disappointed in the response of Migrants at the clinics
being held weekly in Hale Center and Plainview, due to the fact
probably that there are few migrants in the area at this time;
in the community survey to hp mprIgh tIlpre will be 239 homes in town
and 740 homes to be interviewed in the rural segment and the Home
Demonstrations Clubs are assisting in the survey; also a NYC stu-
dent is going to work in the office 32 hous a week for one year
as a trainee, which will make two aids; John Whittle, sanitarian,
is moving from Plainview; and that she was concerned for the
health of Thelma Slaughter, nurse.
No other business appearing, the meeting adjourned.
