BOARD OF HEALTH MEETING
AUGUST 15, 2002
Those in attendance were Dr. Kit Linton, Dr. Michael Hinze, Mayor Lloyd Woods, Jim
Jeffers, Elizabeth Regner, Neal Burnett, Sally Meeks, R.N., Dr: Ron Miller, Dr. Sidney
Ontai, Cinde Ebeling, Judy Shannon, Dr. Bryan Peeler, Benny Cantwell, John Castro,
Ericka Jathan, R.N., and Lou Ann Silva. Guests that attended the meeting were Wally
Hatch, Jason Thompson, Sandra Rivera, R.N., Dr. Nick Curry, Dale Simpson, and
Virginia Esparza.
Board Chair, Dr. Kit Linton, called the regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of
Health of Plainview -Hale County Health Department to order at approximately 12:30
P.M. at the Plainview Country Club, on August 15, 2002.
Dr. Linton asked if there were any corrections on the last minutes.
Motion to approve minutes with corrections was made by Dr. Linton and second by Neal
Burnett.
Dr. Linton then moved on to the expenditures and asked if anyone had any questions for
the months of May and June
Dr. Peeler then gave the communicable disease reports. He also talked about the 23 free
cholesterol screenings that were done at the Senior Citizen Center. As well as the Pap
Smears that the Health Department will be doing for women when they come in for
sexual transmitted disease. These tests will be read by theTexas Department of Health:
The test will be paid by the patient and by billing Medicaid for those who can not afford
it.
Jason Thompson talked about our new logo, which will be placed on our letterheads,
envelopes, brochures, business cards, and advertisement.
Over 60 children were immunized on August 10, 2002 at the Health Department for
Dairy Queen promotion. The Health Department also handed out magnets with crayons
from Covenant Hospital and other items like a coupon from Dairy Queen for a free ice
cream cone. A clown was present from KKYN who handed out balloons to all the
children: KKYN also broadcasted live from the Health Department.
Jason then presented a video of Jack McCasland inspecting Chicken Express.
Dr. Linton then introduced Belinda Pena, as a Plainview Council Member. Belinda will
be replacing Rey Rosas.
Dr. Nick Curry talked about the functions of the Health Board Members.
Ericka Jathan discussed the Health Department 40th anniversary. About 100 people came
to help celebrate that activity. Fifty immunizations were given that day as well. Then
she discussed Back to School shots. Two hundred children were immunized during Back
to School Clinic that week and more were expected before school started.
Dr. Warren from Health Sciences Center Texas Tech, sent a pediatric internist to the
Health Department to observe and learn about Public Health. Dr. Thu Nuygen joined the
Health Department on August 14 and 15. During that time, she was shown the Health
Education complex and the two dialysis centers. She also participated with the Back to
School Clinic and had interaction with staff and patients.
Ericka also gave a report from Jack McCasland on food born illness. This has gone down
to nine this year compared to twenty-three last year. Ericka Jathan said the reason for this
is because of better education.
Elizabeth Regnar thanked the Health Department as well Dr. Peelar.
Dr. Linton adjourned the meeting.
