HomeMy WebLinkAbout99-3222Speed Zone - Joliet Street (3200 block to Industrial Boulevard) ORDINANCE NO. 99-3222 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PLAINVIEW, TEXAS, AMENDING SECTION 24-158 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES TO ESTABLISH A MAXIMUM RATE OF SPEED FOR VEHICLES TRAVELING NORTHBOUND AND SOUTHBOUND ON JOLIET STREET; PROVIDING FOR A PENALTY; CUMULATIVENESS CLAUSE; CONFLICTS CLAUSE; SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; AND EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Plainview, upon the basis of engineering and traffic investigation, finds it necessary to establish a maximum speed limit on Joliet Street for traffic traveling northbound and southbound within the corporate limits of the City of Plainview, Texas; and WHEREAS, the City Council finds it in the best interest of the public safety of the citizens of the City of Plainview to amend {}24-158 to reflect these changes; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the City of Plainview, Texas that: Section 1: The speed limit on Joliet Street, within the City limits of Plainview, at the following designated locations shall be amended in the Plainview City Code of Ordinance ({} 24-158) and said speed limits shall be as follows: (a) Beginning 50 feet North of the centerline of the intersection of Joliet Street and West 32na Street, northbound traffic to Industrial Boulevard, the maximum legal speed limit shall be 35 mph. The maximum speed limit South of Industrial Boulevard for southbound traffic shall be 35 mph, to a point 50 feet of the North centerline of Joliet Street and West 32na Street. (b) The symbol "mph" as used in this Ordinance is a symbol for and means "miles per hour". Section II Any person who shall violate or fail to comply with the provision of this ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof, shall be punished by a fine of not less than $1.00 and not more than $200.00. Section III Provisions of this ordinance are cumulative and nothing herein shall prevent, alter, or diminish the applicability or enforcement of Other ordinances restricting, regulating or goVerning the subject matter herein. Ordinance No. 99-3222 Page 1 of 2 Section IV All ordinances or portions of any ordinance of the City of Plainview, Texas in conflict herewith, are hereby amended to conform with the provisions hereof. Section VI Should any section, subsection, or any portion hereof be deemed invalid for any reason, such holding shall not render or invalidate any other section, sub-section, sentence, provision, clause, phrase, or word severable therefrom and the same shall be deemed severable for this purpose. Section VII This ordinance shall be of full force and effect upon its passage and publication as required by law.
