HomeMy WebLinkAbout98-3162Election ORDINANCE NO. 98-3162 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PLAINVIEW CALLING AND SETTING THE DATE FOR THE REGULAR MUNICIPAL ELECTION; DESIGNATING PRECINCTS AND POLLING PLACES FOR PRECINCTS 1, 2, $, 4, 5, 6, AND 7; DESIGNATING THE ELECTION OF A COUNCILMEMBER FOR PRECINCTS 1, 2, 3 AND 4 RESPECTIVELY; DESIGNATING THE ELECTION OF A MAYOR; DESIGNATING EARLY VOTING BALLOT BOARD JUDGE; SETTING HOURLY RATE FOR ELECTION OFFICIALS; AND POSTING NOTICE OF ELECTION. WHEREAS, in accordance with the statutes of the State of Texas and the Charter of the City of Plainview, an election shall be held in and for the City of Plalnview; and WHEREAS, the election shall be held on the first Saturday in May, 1998, the same being the second day of the month; and WHEREAS, all persons qualified to vote in said election under the Election Laws of the State of Texas shall be allowed to vote therein. THE CITY OF PLAINVIEW HEREBY ORDAINS that all electors shall vote in the voting precinct in which said voter resides, and at the polling place provided for voting as designated in Section 1 of this ordinance. Section 1: The election shall be held in the designated precinct within the City, at the designated polling place within the precinct as designated below: CITY PRECINCT NO. 1 Voting Place: Ash Elementary School 908 Ash Street Plainview, TX CITY PRECINCT NO. 2 Voting Place: Hillcrest Elementary School 315 S.W. Alpine Drive Plainview, TX CITY PRECINCT NO. 3 Voting Place: Lakeside Elementary School Page I of 3 1800 Joliet Street Plainview, TX CITY PRECINCT NO. 4 Voting Place: College Hill Elementary 707 Canyon Street Plainview, TX CITY PRECINCT NO. 5 Voting Place: Edgemere Elementary School 2601 West 20th Street Plainview, TX CITY PRECINCT NO. 6 Voting Place: Plainview High School 1501 Quincy Plainview, TX CITY PRECINCT NO. 7 Voting Place: Coronado Junior High School 1100 West 24th Street Plainview, TX Section 2: That said election is to elect a 4. mayor and city councilmembers for precincts 1, 2, 3, and Section 3: That Said election shall have as its Early Voting Ballot Board presiding election judge Whit Hunt. Section 4: It is further provided that the hourly rate for Presiding Election Judges shall not exceed $6.00 per hour, and the hourly rate for Clerks shall not exceed $6.00 per hour. SectiOn 5: A copy of this ordinance shall also be served upon the election officials designated to hold the election. Section 6: Provisions of this ordinance are cumulative and nothing herein shah prevent, alter, or diminish the applicability or enforcement of other ordinances restricting, regulating or governing the subject matter herein. Section 7: All ordinances or portions of any ordinance of the City of Plainview, Texas in conflict herewith, are hereby amended to conform with the provisions hereof. Page 2 of 3 Section 8: Should any section, Subsection, or any portion hereofbe deemed invalid for any reason, such holding shall not render or invalidate any other section, subsection, sentence, provision, clause, phrase, or word severable therefrom and the same shall be deemed severable for this purpose.
