HomeMy WebLinkAbout98-3160ELECTRICAL CODE ORDINANCE - AMENDMENT ORDINANCE NO. 98-3160 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PLAINVIEW, TEXAS, AMENDING THE ELECTRICAL CODE, TO ALLOW FOR THE USE OF LIQUID TIGHT FLEXIBLE NON-METALLIC CONDUIT; CUMULATIVENESS CLAUSE; CONFLICTS CLAUSE; SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; AND EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 84-2550, known as the City of Plainview Electrical Code sets forth standards governing type materials to be used for raceways; and WHEREAS, the Electrical Board of the City of Plainview has recommended the use of such materials; and WHEREAS, it was determined by the City Council that it would be in the best public interest to amend the City of Plainview Electrical Code in the manner hereinafter set forth in the body of this Ordinance; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED, by the City Council of the City of Plainview, Texas that the Electricity Code is amended as follows: SECTION I Sec. 10-131. All installations hereafter and all installations made in all buildings subject to excess moisture and gases, all grain elevators and buildings where hay and grain is stored or kept, and all 3 phase installations shall have all wiring encased in metal raceways. EXCEPTION NO. 1: Schedule 40 or 80 PVC may be used as an underground conduit when bUried in the earth at a minimum depth of eighteen (18") measured from the top of the conduit (1987 NEC 300-5). PVC shall not be uSed as a general raceway in open air. Sec. 10-132. Gasoline service stations, grain storage and grain elevators; additional requirements. All installations made in service stations must be installed metallic raceways with the proper types of explosive-proof fittings, boxes, etc. Separate runs of conduit will be required for all gasoline pump installations and no separate lighting or sign circuits will be permitted in these conduits. Page 1 of 2 All installations made on all buildings subject to excess moisture and gases and all grain elevator or grain storage buildings must be installed in metallic raceways with explosion-proof or dust-tight boxes and fittings as required by the National Electrical Code. SECTION II Provisions of this ordinance are cumulative and nothing herein shall prevent, alter, or diminish the applicability or enforcement of other ordinances restricting, regulating or governing the subject matter herein. SECTION III All ordinances or portions of any ordinance of the City of Plainview, Texas in conflict herewith, are hereby amended to conform with the provisions hereof. SECTION IV Should any section, subsection, or any portion hereof be deemed invalid for any reason, such holding shall not render or invalidate any other section, sub- section, sentence, provision, clause, phrase, or word severable therefrom and the same shall be deemed severable for this purpose.
