The meeting was called to order by Chairman, Whit Hunt.
Board Members present: Chairman, Whit Hunt, Veronica Gutierrez, Ray Jameson, and
MaryAnn Escamilla.
Staff Members present: John Castro, Director of Community Services.
Others present: Mr. and Mrs. Edward Alexander, Roberto and Antonia Martinez, and
Miguel Acosta.
Ray Jameson made a motion to approve the minutes from the previous meeting as
wdtten, seconded by Veronica Gutierrez. Motion passed 4 - 0.
John Castro presented BA Case 1265, the request of Edward Alexander for a variance
of four (4) feet o~f the required side setback and twenty-four (24) feet of the required front
setback to build a 24' x 32' carport at 705 W 19th Street. Mr. Castro proceeded by
showing a map and video of the area.
Edward Alexander stepped forward and explained the reasons for his request to the
board.

Mrs. Antonia Martinez stepped forward to speak on behalf of herself and her spouse and
explained the reasons for the variance request. Mrs. Martinez provided the Board with
a petition signed by the neighbors in favor of the request. Mrs. Martinez explained that
it would help their family and protect their vehicles.
Ray Jameson made a motion to disallow the garage, but permit the carport. The motion
died because it was not seconded.
Whit Hunt indicated that the variance was denied since the Board could not come to a
decision.
John Castro informed the Board that they had to vote to either approve or disapprove the
request. Mr. Castro also informed the Board that if the request was disapproved then the
Martinez family could still have a carport since they did not need a variance for that
structure.
Ray Jameson made a motion to deny the variance, seconded by Veronica Gutierrez.
Motion passed 4 - 0.
John Castro presented BA Case 1267, the request of Miguel Acosta for a variance of 25
feet of the required front yard setback to build a 29' x 10.5' carport at 1109 W 28th Street.
Mr. Castro proceeded by showing a video and map of the area to the board.
Miguel Acosta stepped forward and explained the reason for the variance request.
The Board discussed making the carport 10.5' x 15' instead of 29'x 10.5'.
Veronica Gutierrez made a motion to approve the 10.5' x 15' carport, seconded by
MaryAnn Escamilla. Motion passed 4 - 0.
With no further business to discuss the meeting was adjourned.
