BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT
MINUTES
SEPTEMBER 23, 1996
The meeting was called to order by Chairman, Whit Hunt.
Board members present were: Chairman, Whit Hunt, Betty Gonzales, Richard Miller,
Veronica Gutierrez, and Joe Ed Sullivan.
Staff members present were: John Castro, Director of Community Development, and
Dolores Montelongo, Secretary of Community Development.
Others present: Wayne Arnold Jr. and Dwight Burns.
Betty Gonzaies made a motion to approve the minutes of the last meeting, seconded by
Veronica Gutierrez. Motion passed 5 - 0.
John Castro presented BA Case No. 1261 to the board. The request of Dwight L. Burns
for a variance of 9 feet of the required distance of 10 feet between a main structure and
an accessary building and a variance of 2 feet of the required 3 feet side setback to build
an 8 x 16 storage building. Also a variance of 4 feet of the required 5 feet side setback
to build a carport on 2803 W 17th Street of the Edgemere Addition. John Castro
presented a video and map of the area.
Dwight L. Burns came forward and explained the request and presented the board with
pictures of where he plans to put the carport/storage.
Whit Hunt asked how much of the storage shed would be visible on 17th street?
Dwight L. Burns responded that the storage shed would not show very much due to his
6 feet tall fence and trees covering the area.
Joe Ed Sullivan made a motion to grant Mr. Burns's request, seconded by Betty
Gonzaies. Motion passed 5 - 0.
John Castro presented BA Case No. 1264. The request of Wayne Arnold Jr. for a
variance of 4 1/2 feet of the required 5 feet side set back and 21 1/2 feet of the required
25 feet required by the city, to build a carport in an R-2 Zoning District, at 1305 W 25th
Street, Thunderbird Addition. Mr. Castro presented a video and map of the area to the
board.
Wayne Arnold Jr. stepped forward and explained his variance request. He explained that
he needs the carport for protection of his vehicles. He was informed by John Castro that
the houses were built to close to the street. Mr. Arnold plans to attach a 20 x 20 carport
to his garage, it will drain to the front, towards the street.
Victoria Gutierrez made a motion to grant Mr. Arnold's request, seconded by Betty
Gonzales. Motion passed 5-0,
With no further business to discuss the meeting was adjourned.
