BOARD OF ADJUST~RNT~EETINGMINUTES
Monday, July 27, 1992, 7:30 P.M.
Council Chambers, City Hall, 901 Broadway
The meeting was called to order by chairperson, Lynn Davis.
Other board members present were: Eddie Sessions, Jannie Benson,
Leroy Lightfoot and Randy Ballinger.
Staff present were: Larry Gould, Building Inspections/Code
Enforcement Department; Jim Lindstrom, Building Inspections/Code
Enforcement Department; Roy Reese, Building Inspections/Code
Enforcement; and Janice Anderson, Secretary, Community Services.
B. A. CASE NO. 1150:
Request of J. D. Sams for a variance of five (5) feet of the
thirty 30 foot front setback required in Section 32 to build a
patio cover and storage building, being Lots 17 and 18, Block 4,
Brandes Subdivision and generally located at 800 Canyon.
Jim Lindstrom presented the case to the board.
Mr. Sams stated the cover would be constructed of metal and the
enclosed area would be to enable the movement to the cellar
without being in the weather.
After a short discussion, Leroy Lightfoot moved, seconded by
Eddie Sessions to approve the request. Motion carried
unanimously.
B. A. CASE NO. 1151:
Request of Mark Laney for a variance to Section 31:7(6) requiring
that full enclosure of a parking structure be fully sprinkled.
Request to allow three (3) hour fire wall on north side side to
adjoin the Salvation Army Building and one (1) hour fire wall on
south side adjoining Laney and Stokes Law offices, being Lots 3
and 4, Block 17, Original Town Addition and generlly located at
600 Ash Street.
Larry Gould presented the case to the board.
Joe Sherman spoke in opposition as he felt the clay tile hollow
block Wall would not stand the pull if the other building were
attached to it. Also he felt the garage should be sprinkled.
Mark Laney spoke in favor and explained that the building would
not adjoin the Sherman's building. He explained .that the

building could be built as planned and leave the door open on the
building as a one (1) hour fire wall meets the code. He
requested to have a three (3) hour fire wall next to the
Sherman's building instead of sprinkling the building. The
building is to be constructed of metal and concrete block.
Mrs. Sherman (owner) of adjoining building feels the ordinance
should be followed.
After a short disucussion, Randy Ballinger moved, seconded by
Leroy Lightfoot to approve the variance requested. Motion
carried with two (2) in favor and one (1) against (Eddie Sessions
voting against). Motion carried.
With no further business meeting adjourned.
