HomeMy WebLinkAboutR14-318RESOLUTION R14 -318 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLAINVIEW, TEXAS, APPROVING THE REQUEST OF PLAINVIEW HALE COUNTY CRIMESTOPPERS TO HOST THE "PLAINVIEW HALE COUNTY CRIMESTOPPERS COLOR RUN "; AUTHORIZING THE FILING OF THE AGREEMENT FOR THE TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF STATE RIGHT - OF -WAY WITH THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION FOR THIS EVENT; DECLARING THAT THE EVENT SERVES A PUBLIC PURPOSE; AND AGREEING TO COMPLY WITH REGULATIONS. WHEREAS, the Texas Department of Transportation owns and operates U.S. Highway 70 (5 Street) in the corporate limits of the City of Plainview; and WHEREAS, the City of Plainview received a request from the Plainview Hale County Crime Stoppers on May 19, 2014 for police assistance in its Color Run to be held Saturday, July 5, 2014; and WHEREAS, the Plainview Hale County Crime Stoppers Color Run will begin at the Santa Fe Depot at 9:00 a.m., and will cross U.S. Highway 70 at the intersection of Ash Street and on the return route at Baltimore Street. The attached map provides complete route details. The event is expected to conclude by 10:00 a.m.; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Plainview finds that such an event serves a public purpose in that it increases the public awareness in the importance of physical fitness; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Plainview, Texas finds it in the best interest for the citizens of Plainview that the Plainview Hale County Crime Stoppers Color Run will be held on July 5th 2014 and use the referenced routes; and WHEREAS, the Texas Department of Transportation requires the Local Government to submit a completed Agreement for the Temporary Closure of State Right -of -Way for use of US Highway 70 in such public events such as this Color Run sponsored by Plainview Hale County Crime Stoppers; and WHEREAS, the City Council designates Mayor Wendell Dunlap as the City's authorized official. The authorized official is given the power to apply for or terminate such Agreement on behalf of the City. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Plainview that: Res. R14 -318 The request from the Plainview Hale County Crime Stoppers to sponsor this Color Run for July 5, 2014 is hereby approved. The public purpose of this event is to increase the public awareness in the importance of physical fitness. Submission of the completed AGREEMENT FOR THE TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF STATE RIGHT -OF -WAY with the Texas Department of Transportation is hereby approved. IV. The Mayor is hereby authorized and directed to execute, respectively, on behalf of the City of Plainview, all necessary documents, including the AGREEMENT FOR THE TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF STATE RIGHT -OF -WAY to complete the Plainview Hale County Crime Stoppers Color Run preparation process.
