HomeMy WebLinkAbout04 0210 minThe Plainview City Council met on February 10, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers of the Plainview City Hall at 901 Broadway. The agenda for this meeting was posted in City Hall at 8:30 a.m. on February 5, 2004. Mayor John C. Anderson presided. Councilmembers present were: Kelvin Tipton-District 1, Mary Jane Shanes- District 2, John N. Bertsch-District 4, Ross Owen-District 5, Buddy McGehee-District 6 and Irene Favila-District 7. Councilmembers absent were: Belinda Pena-District 3. 255 Staff members present were: Greg Ingham-City Manager, Wally Hatch-City Attorney, John Castro-Director of Community Services, Dale Simpson-Director of Civil Service, Will Mull-Police Chief, Gary Glass-Fire Chief, Jaime Salinas-Police Detective, Michael Carroll-Capt of Criminal Investigation and Belinda Hinojosa-City Secretary. Guests present were: Evelyn Carroll and Captain Lozano News Media Representative: Richard Orr-Plainview Daily Herald Captain Lozano with the Salvation Army delivered the invocation. Councilmember Bertsch led in the Pledge of Allegiance. Police Chief Will Mull presented a 25-year pin to Captain Michael Carroll. Councilmember Bertsch moved to adopt the consent calendar. The motion was duly seconded by Councilmember Favila and carried by unanimous vote. Items approved on the Consent Calendar included: approval of minutes of January 27, 2004 and February 5, 2004; receipt of departmental reports; and approval of expenditures, The Council granted an excused absence to Councilmember Belinda Pena, The Council approved the reappointment of Sharon Morgan to the Library Board with said term to expire December 31, 2007. Belinda Hinojosa, City Secretary introduced Resolution R04-130, a Resolution of the City of Plainview calling and setting the date for the Regular Municipal Election; Designating districts and polling places for Districts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7; Designating the election of a Councilmember for Districts 5, 6 and 7 respectively; Designating the election of a Mayor At-Large; And posting Notice of Election. This resolution basically calls the election for Mayor and Councilmembers for Districts 5, 6 and 7 and sets the polling places. Election Day will be May 15, 2004 and eady voting will be held April 28, 2004 through May 11, 2004 at City Hall. Candidates may file for a place on the ballot beginning February 14, 2004 through March 15, 2004. Councilmember Owen moved to adopt Resolution R04-130. The motion was duly seconded by Councilmember Tipton and carried by unanimous vote. Councilmember Owen moved to adjourn the meeting.
