Dr. Wagner, David Oates and Mary Lou Truesdale furnished written reports of
work Dr. Wagner stated the Migrant Program plan was to regionalize with
three counties anu that their present office space was not adequate.
David Oates stated that the migrant budget had to be submitted March 1, 1973
to the Dallas office and that Plainview was on top of the list as a real center
or leader of the HEW' Program and that they were working to up -date, expand ana
accelerate the program. Plans call for (1) full time physician and (2) to
provide for adequate facilities.
Roy Long stated that the present facilities had no space for educational
facilities, office for physician and counsel roams. Four alternatives had
been checked into, being:
1.
Rent another building for the entire operation -checked implement house, Ford
House, Drug Store space. Sale Price of these ran from $40,000 to $60,000
and renovation cost $15,000.
2.
Separate Facilities:oChecked Crum Building and purchase price is $31,500;
Speck Building southwest corner Dr. Stone's building - renovation cost
$10,000. to $15,000.
3.
New construction would cost $14.50 square feet including property in target
area, equipment -- uipment and furnishings total cost of 40486 square feet $83,000.
with 25 -car parking area. Construction concrete block.
4.
Have someone else build a building and rent s arnme . Cost $$3.50 to $5.00 s q ft
per year or $15,000 to $22,500 year or $1250 to $1875 monthly. Building would
not beequipped.
Summarizing:Kr. Long stated that nothing had been located that would be adequate
to rent, separate facilities would cause' fragmentation, and new construction
would be ideal if finances could be arranged but a lease on a new building the
rent would be prohibitive.
It was suggested that a meeting be called for Thursday evening, February 22,
19731 with County and City . officials for further discussion of facilities.
No further business appearing, the meeting adjourned.
