HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-29-1979 Board of Health MinutesPLAIR COUNTY BOARD OF HEALTH MINUTES MARCH 29, 1979 The regular meeting of the Plainview -Hale County Board of Health was held at K Bob's Steak House on March 29, 1979. Those present were: Mr. Oliver Hamel, Dr. Richard Morgan, Mr. Ray D. Blair, Dr. C.M. Baldwin, Mr. Bud Law, Dr. John P. Board, Jr., Dr.. Hugh H. Wilson, Jr., Dr. Donald Moore, Mrs. Mary Lou Truesdale, and Mrs. Billie Jo Newsom. The meeting was called to order by Dr. Baldwin. The minutes of the last meeting mere approved as circulated after one sentence in the 4th paragraph was re -worded to read: "The motion was made by Mr. Law; that the officer's nominated by the nominating committee be elected by -acclamation.", the prase "officer's nominated by the nominating committee", being inserted,' The motion was made by Mr. Harmel, seconded by Dr. Moore that the bill February be paid. Motion carried. A budgetcommittee was appointed by the chairman, Dr. Baldwin. Persons appointed to serve on the committee are: Dr. Hugh H. Wilson, Jr,, Mr. Oliver Harmel, and Dr. Richard Morgan. Dr, Baldwin asked that the budget be prepared and ready for submission to the Board of Health at their next meeting. A letter was then read that had been sent to Mrs. Ronnie Hutcherson., by the Board, in regard to the effect of ,her temporary change of residence from Plainview to Canyon, on. her Board membership. Mrs. Hutcherson's reply stated that her member- ship had been a meaningful experience for her, but that she felt it would be best for her, and the Board, that she submit her resignation. Dr. Baldwin said that her letter had been submitted to Mayor Wayland in order that he may take proper action to fill the vacancy left by Mrs. Hutcherson. Dr. Baldwin' had not had any further word on the matter from Mayor Wayland. Dr. Baldwin read a letter that had been sent to all Hale County schools re- garding the decision by the Board in the February meeting to assist in measles vaccinations at the Junior High level and/or above in County schools according to individual history. Mrs. Truesdale stated the programs are underway in all schools except Abernathy. Dr. Baldwin then asked Dr. Board for his comments on House Billt1405 and other Health related bills. Dr. Board informed the Board that there are other health related bilis in committee, including one regarding staing orders for kn nurses. Dr. Board states that as things stand now, it is y that a Health Department the size of Plainview's will come under state supervision, at least, not for four or five years. Mrs. Truesdale expressed ner desire for progress toward the goal of improved prenatal and post natal care services, educative outreach, and increased Family Planning services. The ultimate goal is a decrease in the infant mortality rate in Hale County. This will necessarily require increased local staffing, Mrs. Truesdale informed the Board of the resignation of Mrs. Myrna Moore, and of a court case involving some adultrated meat. Both Mrs. Truesdale and Dr. Board commented on tie good progress of Dr. James C. Cox in making his adjustments to his newly acquired position as .sanitarian for the Health Department. s or MINUTES PAGE 2 Since there -vas no further business to come before the Board, Dr. Baldwin declared the meeting to be adjourned.
