HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-30-1979 Board of Health MinutesPLAINVIEW-HALE COUNTY BOARD OF HEALTH MINUTES August 30, 1979 The Plainview -Hale County Board of Health met in regular session at K -Bob's Steak House on August 30, 1979. Those in attendance were: Dr. C.M. Baldwin, Dr. John P. Board, Jr., Mr. Ray D. Blair, Mayor Bob Wayland, Dr. Donald M. Moore, Mr. Oliver Harmel, Dr. Richard E. Morgan Mrs. Iva Jean West, Mr. Bud Law, Dr. Hugh H. Wilson, Jr., Mrs. Mary Lou Truesdale, Judge Bill Hollers, and Mrs. Billie Jo Newsom. The minutes of the last meeting of July 27, 1979, were approved as read. Dr. Baldwin welcomed His Honor, Judge Bill Hollers to his first session with the Board of Health. The motion was made by Bud Law, seconded by Dr. Morgan, that the bills for July be paid. Motion carried. Dr. Board reported that things are continuing on as previously reported, and that no unusual activity is going on. He did add that he would be absent from his Lubbock office between the dates of Sept- ember 15 and October 8, and will be available only at Austin during the interim. Mrs. Truesdale reported that, other along with the shortage of personnel due and one termination, that work was going than being unusually busy, to vacations, one resignation, on in a routine manner. Dr. Board announced a celebration "The International Year of the Child", to take place on November 30, at the Civic Center. This is being held on this date in order to coincide with the Third Annual Perinatal Seminar, December 1. The Department of Health, Education, and Welfare, Region 6, has selected the "kick-off" of the Improved Child Health Program in Health Systems Agency 2, to be the reason for the celebration of the International Year of the Child in this Region. At this time, plans are being made to have a large, formal, "Perinatal Health Fair", and ribbon -cutting ceremony. The Board members were cordially invited to attend. Dr. Baldwin called the Board's attention to the nursing services report page of the Board of Health Report, emphasizing the total num- ber of services rendered for the month, which was 1,419; which, when compared with past reports, shows a marked increase in services being given by the local Health Department. A discussion then ensued concerning problems which had arisen in Abernathy Independent School District, regarding limitation by school officials on the services which can be offered through the school nurse there. Further discussion followed on ways that this problem might be resolved, as well as a brief explanation of the situation by Dr. Baldwin, wo that Judge Hollers might be informed on some of the background. MINUTES Page 2 A nominating committee consisting of Mr. Oliver Harmel, Mr. Ray Blair, and Mr. Bud Law, was appointed by Dr. Baldwin, who asked that Mr. Harmel, chair the committee; he also requested that the committee be ready to report to the Board at the next regular meeting. Dr. Baldwin asked if there was any further business to come before the Board. There was none. Mr. Blair moved for adjournment. Dr. Morgan seconded. Meeting adjourned.
