HomeMy WebLinkAbout05-17-2001 Parks Advisory Board MinutesPARK ADVISORY COMMISSION BOARD MEETING MINUTES The City of Plainview Park Advisory Board, as appointed by City Ordinance Number 95-3035, dated, as approved, March 28, 1995, held an open meeting at 7:00 P.M., Thursday, May 17, 2001, in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 901 Broadway Street, Plainview, Texas. Minutes for this meeting are hereby submitted as follows. ITEM 1. Called to order by Chairperson Mrs. Davis at 7:15 P.M. 2. Invocation given by Mrs. Wall. 3. Members present were: Mrs. Davis, Mrs. Luna, Mrs. Kiser and Mrs. Wall. 4. Members absent were: Mrs. Walker, Mrs. Riggins and Mrs. McDonald. 5. Guests present were: Juan Morales, Angel Garcia, Tony Santos, Angel Chavez, Ralph Chilton, Edward Chavez, Alfne Alcala and Nicholas Thompson. 6. City Staff present were: Mr. Rusty Reese, Park Superintendent. 7. April's meeting minutes were given by Mrs. Davis and approved as read. 8. Old Business - none 9. New Business - a. A public meeting on TXDoT trail enhancement program, for Running Water Draw Hike and Bike trail. Information was provided by Rusty Reese and Ralph Chilton regarding the process, need and support of the hike and bike trail, to the Parks Advisory Commission. Guest Alfne Alcala made comments, on behalf of all the visitors present, of their full support of the trail. A motion was made by Phyllis Wall and second by Barbara Kiser to support and recommend to Mayor Lloyd Woods and City Council to make every effort to see the Running Water Draw Hike and Bike trail constructed to meet the recreational needs of the citizens of our community. Motion passed by unanimous vote. b. Discussion on the need to make improvements to Travis Trussell Duck Pond was discussed. Phyllis Wall suggested that improvements be made such as install donated concrete pads, on the north side of the pond, and mount stools on them for additional seating. Also, to install screen in front of the feed barrels and to construct a metal canopy over part of the picnic/duck feeding area. A motion was made by Phyllis Wall and second by Barbara Kiser to make these improvements, spending up to $4,000.00 of the parks improvements budget. Motion passed by unanimous vote. 10. The Parks Advisory Commission thanked the guests for their support and for attending the meeting. 11.
