HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-18-2002 Parks Advisory Board MinutesPARK ADVISORY COMMISSION BOARD MEETING MINUTES The City of Plainview Park Advisory Board, as appointed by City Ordinance Number 95-3035, dated, as approved, March 28, 1995, held an open meeting at 4:30 P.M., Thursday, July 18, 2002, in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 901 Broadway Street, Plainview, Texas. Minutes for this meeting are hereby submitted as follows. ITEM 1. Called to order by Chairperson Mrs. Davis at 4:35 P.M. 2. Invocation given by Mrs. Wall. 3. Members present were: Mrs. Davis, Mrs. Luna, Mrs. McDonald, Mrs. Riggins, Mrs. Lloyd, Mr. Noblet and Mrs. Wall. 4. Members absent were: Linda Garcia. 5. Guests present were: no guests. 6. Oath of office — Doylene Lloyd read the oath. 7. City Staff present were: Mr. Rusty Reese, Park Superintendent. 8. April's meeting minutes were given by Mrs. Davis and approved as read. 9. Old Business - A. Commission was updated on Broadway and Givens play structures. The original bid packet was accepted and rejected by City Council action and that a new bid packet should be ready to advertise and send out in approximately two weeks from this date. B. Commission members were told that the Mannin Memorial was a great success and very beautiful. The donation to the park was estimated to be in value of $10,000.00. 10. New Business - A. Adult baseball use in M.B. Hood Park. (foul ball safety) After the issue was explained and discussed, the commission voted to take no action. They agreed that this was a personal issue and not a City business issue, believing that users of the track should be aware of unlimited possibilities, while walking during any type of baseball activities, in the area of the track. B. Skateboarding in City concrete drainage areas, draining into Regional Park. Skaters are jumping the curbing, onto adjacent properties. After discussing the issue, the commission elected to take no action because it is not their jurisdiction. 11. Open meeting - A. Ruby Riggins stated that she had one request to have a walking track constructed around Travis Trussell duck pond. After discussing it and since there are no funds available and the City does not own the property, on the west side, the commission elected to take no action. B. Mrs. Wall asked what could be done with the over growth of weeds and debris along 5th Street/Hwy 70. Rusty explained that this is the responsibility of the property owner and that Code Enforcement dealt with these issues. Furthermore, if a complaint was recorded, Code Enforcement would investigate and proceed there after. 12. Next meeting set for October 10, 2002. 13. Meeting adjourned at 5:20 P.M.
