HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-11-2001 Parks Advisory Board MinutesPARK ADVISORY COMMISSION BOARD MEETING MINUTES The City of Plainview Park Advisory Board as appointed by City Ordinance Number 95-3035 dated as approved March 28, 1995, held an open meeting at 4:30 P.M., Thursday, January 11, 2001, in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 901 Broadway Street, Plainview, Texas. Minutes for this meeting are hereby submitted as follows. ITEM 1. Call to order by Chairperson Mrs. Davis at 5:05 P.M. 2. Invocation given by Mrs. Davis. 3. Members present were: Mrs. Davis, Mrs. Wall, and Mrs. Luna, Mrs. Riggins and Mrs. McDonald. 4. Members absent were: Mrs. Walker and Mrs. Kiser. 5. No guests were present. 6. City Staff present were: Mr. Rusty Reese, Park Superintendent. 7. October's meeting minutes were given by Mrs. Davis and were approved as read. 8. Old Business - No business. 9. New Business - a. Activities for Arbor Day Celebration were discussed and the decision was made to "- have the newspaper print an article on the pecan tree being the State of Texas state tree and have pictures of different pecan leaves for educational purposes. Also invite Mr. Richard Frances to attend a photographic opportunity with commission members showing a pecan tree lane. b. Discussion of the possibility of having an aerator fountain installed at the Travis Trussell duck pond. A motion was made by Mrs. Davis and second by Mrs. McDonald to make a request to the City Council to approve the installation and provide the means for electrical service and annual operating expenses for the aerator. The actual cost of the aerator is suggested to be solicited form individuals or businesses for memorials, etc. c. 1. Update commission on park activities, park tree sculptures, deceased trees within the parks are being offered for sculpturing. 2. Regional Running Water Draw rock waterfall that is in the construction phase. The waterfall is to be located north of Kidsville and west of the Rotary building and will have four stages. 3. The commission was advised that 80-100 Western Sleigh Pecan trees have been donated to the parks for transplantation from a grape vineyard owned by Mr. Richard Frances. d. The commission's members were presented with appreciation tokens for their dedicated service. e. Open forum - no discussion. 10. Next meeting is scheduled for April 12, 2001, at 5:00 P.M. 11.
