Board of Heath Minutes
January 12th, 2011
Board Members Present: Don Williams, Dr. Ruth Rector-Wright,
Stacie Hardage, Nancy Cox, Judy Shannon, and Sandra Dulakis.
Others Present: Benny Cantwell and Dr. Sidney Ontai, Medical
Authority.
Staff Members Present: Kelli Shurbet, RN (DON) and Sheila Carter,
Secretary.
Judy Shannon called the meeting of the Plainview-Hale County
Board of Health to order at the Unger Memorial Library on

January12, 2011 at 12:30 P.M.
First Item on Agenda: Invocation. Benny Cantwell gave the
invocation.
Second Item on Agenda: Administer Oath of Office. Elizabeth Rivera
administered Oath of Office to Belinda Pena and Don Williams.
Third Item on Agenda: Approval of minutes from the September
16th, 2010 meeting. There was no correction to the minutes from

the September 16, 2010 meeting. Don Williams entertained a
nd
motion to approve the minutes as written and Dr. Ruth Wright 2.
Minutes were approved as written.
Fourth item on Agenda: Review of expenditures. Dr. Ruth Rector-
Wright made a motion to approve the expenditures for August 2010,
September 2010, October 2010, and November 2010. Expenditures
nd
were approved as written and Nancy Cox 2.
Fifth Item on Agenda: Update and discusses communicable disease
reports: Kelli reported that there was an increase in STD’S. There
have been 17 cases of the Flu confirmed and reported to us.
Sixth Item on Agenda: Health Department News. Kelli Shurbet
introduced Dr. Ontai as the Medical Director. Kelli Shurbet also
reported that we had the new carpet down and the painting all done
at the Health Department and we would love to have everyone over
to see it.
Kelli Shurbet reported we are doing lots of audits for Daycares and
the Schools now. We had 15 flu clinics this flu season. We have
been to Hale Center School and gave Immunization shots to the
students there.
Dr. Wright ask if we had heard anything about them taking the HPV
vaccine off of the market Kelli Shurbet said that we had not heard
anything about it.
Seventh Item on Agenda: Discuss other health concerns the board
would like to address. Dr. Ontai ask if there was a plan in place in
case of an emergency as who to call and what to do. Benny
Cantwell said that Mike Allen was the contact person for the City
and Jerry Morphis has taken over for the County. Benny Cantwell
was going to invite Mike Allen to the next meeting to discuss this
further.
Eighth Item on Agenda: Next Meeting Date. The next meeting will

Ninth Item on Agenda: Adjourn. Don Williams entertained a motion to

adjourn and Nancy Cox 2.
