APRIL 30, 1987
Those attending the Board of Health meeting on April 30, 1987 at the
Plainview Country Club were: Dr. Gary Abercrombie; Dr. Anthony A. Lyons;
Dr. Mary.Bublis; Dr. Kit Kveton with medical student Alex Gurrola, MS4;
Lewellen Hoop; Nina Morris; Donna Womble; Lanny Voss; City Manager Jim
Jeffer; Tom Aday; Plainview Daily Herald Reporter, Scott Hallman; Mary Lou
Truesdale, and secretary, Elvia Montez.
Dr. Abercrombie called the meeting to order.
The minutes were accepted as circulated.
Ms. Womble moved that the bills for March be paid. Mr. Voss seconded.
Motion carried.
Dr. Lyons reported that health department was running smoothly. He stated
that the Sanitarian was resigning effective May 8, 1987. The departments goal
was to keep this position State paid. Ms. Truesdale stated that she was writing
to Dr. Randall to justify why we need to keep the sanitarian position at a
State level position. Dr. Lyons reported that the major health problem was
with strep throat infections. Some cases of 5th diease had been reported.
5th disease is a virus type infection mostly found in age 2 through young
teen. It appears as a body rash that keeps coming and going.
Ms. Truesdale thanked the Board members that supported the AIDS workshop
conducted by Dr. E.A. hsaaoson on April 21, 1987. She discussed the AIDS
educational presentation that will be on Friday, May. 29, 1987 from 7-8 p.m.
on Cannel 28 or 6, it will show the same film that was shown at the workshop.
Dr. Bernstien will be present to answer any questions that the public has
on AIDS.
There will be a meeting on May 7, 1987 in Lubbock. on Indegent Health Care
funding. This meeting will be conducted by Dr. Isaacson. Dr. Lyons and
Mrs. Truesdale will both attend.
There still has not been any word or correspondence on what the State
legislature is doing with the proposed State Budget.
Request for excused abscenses for Dr. Busby, Mrs. Tilson and Weaver
McClure were asked. Mr. Hooper moved to excuse absences. Ms. Womble seconded.
Motion carried.
Mr. Hooper presented the proposed 1987-1988 budget to the Board with
the corrections and adjustments made. Mr. Hooper moved to except proposed budget
as presented. Lanny Voss seconded. Motion carried.
The board expressed concern regarding the cancelation of Obstetrical
Services. by South Plains Health Provider. Their main concern was the results
of expected mothers being left without adequate means of care and delivery.
Lanny Voss moved that Dr. Lyons be asked to write a letter to Ben Flores,
Executive Director of South Plains Health Provider requesting the requesting
the Board of Health be provided with a list of patients receiving prenatal
care and the names of the physiciansto whom they have been referred.
Donna Womble moved to adjourn. Lanny Voss seconded. Motion carried.
