Mrs. Truesdale reported that Dr. Lyons had a quadruple bypass in Houston
on Wednesday, June 24, 1987. He will be hospitalized for 10 days. Mrs.
Truesdale has made arrangements to cover clinics at the department that
Dr. Lyons conducts. Dr. Issacson from Region 2 has offered to assist the
department in any way he or his staff can help while Dr. Lyons is recover-
ing. Mrs. Truesdale reminded the Board that Dr. Lyons is on contract pay
without leave stipulations, and the Board needs to take action on salary.

The Annual Appreciation Dinner will be on September 24, 1987. We would
like to recognize Board members, both present and former for service at
this time.Dr. Abercrombie appointed a committee to make arrangements for
the Annual Appreciation Dinner. Mrs. Tilson will be chairman with Mrs.
Womble and Mr. Voss assisting.
Mrs. Truesdale mentioned that we will start a new Sanitarian on July
1, 1987. Her name is Michelle Cammann. Her salary will be provided by
the state. The fringe benefits will be out of city and county monies.
The water problems in Seth Ward are still present. No contamination has
been found due to EXCEL. There has been several reports of non -coliform
bacteria. Mrs. McMurtry, who has been collecting water samples, has come
across one major contributing factor in the area due to residents piping
water from bath tubs, washing machines, etc., into backyards and bar
ditches. The residents believe it is only necessary to pump raw toilet
sewage into existing cess pools.
The department has hired an Aide, Irene Barron, and a clerk, Billie
Standefer, to fill existing vacant positions. Both of these new employees
will be a great asset to the department.
