HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-27-1988 Board of Health MinutesBOARD OF HEALTH OCTOBER 27, 1988 Those attending the Board of Health Meeting on October 27, 1988 at the Golden Corral Steakhouse were:. Lanny Voss, Dr. Gary Abercrombie, Dr. Anthony Lyons, Dr. Mary Bublis, Dr. Kit Linton and her spouse, Ben Linton, Dorothy Tilson, Lewellen Hooper, Nina Morris, James Belk, Mayor Gene Ridle- huber, Jim Jeffers, Don Dickson,, Mary Lou Truesdale, R.N., Richard Orr from Plainview Daily Herald and Elvia Montez, secretary. ChaiLman Lanny. Voss called, the meeting to order and asked for the approval of the minutes for the September meeting.. By general consensus the minutes were approved as circulated. The monthly hills were presented for approval. Mrs. Tilson moved that the bills be paid. The motion was seconded by Dr. Linton. The motion carried. Mrs. Truesdale noted that the problem regarding the Department Insurance had not been satisfactorily resolved. Apparently Environmental Health was not included. The outstanding balance, has not been paid. Chairman Voss asked Mr. Hooper, Chairman of the Nominating Committee, to give his report. Mr. Hooper stated that the slate of officers now serving will serve another term - for the period from October 1, 1988 thru September 30, 1989. ( Officers for this period -- Chairman Lanny Voss; Vice Chairman - Mrs. Dorothy Tilson). Dr. Gary Abercrombie moved that the report be accepted. Dr. Linton seconded. The motion carried. Discussion of the Family Planning Contract was not conducted due to the fact that the new Family Planning Contract had not arrived. The Chairman asked the Board to review again the letter that was mailed to them from Diane Gillit, Director of Health Services, South Plains Community •Action, Levelland, Texas; he then appointed a committee (on which he will serve) to negotiate the. Family Planning Contract once it is received. Others toserve on the committee. a -re: Dr. Kit Linton and Dr. Gary Abercrombie. Ex -officio members to serve are: Mary Lou Truesdale, R.N., Anthony A. Lyons, M.D.; Don Dickson and James Belk. Dr. Lyons reported that the department workload was about the same, and in spite of being sort -staffed, the Department was managing to, carry the load. There were no major Health problems. The expected increase in Flu, Gastro Enteritis, sore throat, etc., was occuring. There was one case of Hepatitis A. In response to a question, Dr. Lyons indicated that action on the purchase of Lomax in Pharmacies was properly the responsibility of the State (Region 2) Food and Drug Depart- ment. Be did report that State Food and Drug, along with local District Attorney's office, had confiscated contraband pills containing schedule II drugs from Nature's Way Health Food Store, and that appropriate charges had been filed. Mrs. Truesdale reported that a new Nurse, Debbie Welch, joined the Depart- ment in October. She also mentioned that she had just returned from a work shop in Austin on Managerial Skills. She then asked that discussion of Environmental Health Service changes be deferred to the December meeting, and explained: that because :the Department had been short-staffed, there had not been time to prepare material for the discussion:. She shared with the Board the fact that a Restaurant Association was being formed by Plainview Restaurateurs; and asserted that this would be an asset to the community. Mrs Tilson moved to adjourn.
