MAY 25, 1989
Those attending the Board of Health meeting on May 25, 1989 at the Golden Corral
Steakhouse were: Chairman Lanny Voss; Vice Chairman Dorothy Tilson; Lewellen
Hooper; Dr. Kit Linton and Attorney Ben Linton; Donna Womble; Dr. Anthony A. Lyons;
Nina Morris; Mayor Gene Ridlehuber; City Manager Jim Jeffers; Don Dickson;
Richard Orr, Plainview Daily Herald; and secretary Elvia Montez.
Chairman Voss called the meeting to order and asked for the approval of the April
minutes. Donna Womble R.N. moved to approve the minutes as circulated, Dr. Linton
seconded. Motion carried.
Chairman Voss asked the board to review the expenditure report for April, 1989.
Lewellen Hooper moved to approve the bills. Mrs. Tilson seconded. Motion carried.
Dr. Lyons reported that the health department was running smoothly, with one R.N.
position still vacant. Healthwise in the county; strep throat, chicken pox and
gastro nt•eritis our being reported. Three cases of hepatitis and one HIB meningitis
had also been reported but nothing alarming was afoot.
Mrs. Truesdale reported that the Texas Department of health 'approved an increase
for the nurse position paid by Maternal and Child Health. The new contract has been
received. Mrs. Truesdale mentioned that there has been an increase in the number
of dog bites reported. A problem with coordination among the various departments
involved was discussed. This department's policy Of not allowing home quarantine
was discussed.
Mrs. Truesdale shared with the Board that there had been several complaints about
"greywater" in Sethward. The health department is doing all it can to make sure
that this nuisance is corrected.
Chairman Voss inquired as to the Health Department's involvement in any type of
community support program on Aids, or other communicable diseases. Mrs. Truesdale
answered that the health department had been working with the City of Plainview
to formulate an Aids prevention and Communicable Disease prevention program,
and that we are actively involved with the Aids Task Forcesponsored by Lubbock
City Health Department.
Chairman Voss asked for excused absences for Dr. Mary B.ubais, Dr. C. Bushy and
Weaver'- McClure. Motion was made by Dorothy Tilson and seconded by Donna Womble.
Motion Carried.
Chairman Voss asked if there was other business to discussby the board and there
being none, asked for motion to adjourn. Motion to adjourn by Mrs. Tilston.
