HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-4-2010 Board of Health MinutesBoard of Heath Minutes March 4th, 2010 Board Members Present: Don Williams, Dr. Ruth Rector -Wright, Cinde Ebeling, Nancy Cox, Stacie Hardage, Michael T Carroll, and Judy Shannon. Others Present: Benny Cantwell, Dr. Ron Miller, Paulette Manning, Libby Howard, Benny Cantwell, and Andrew Possey. Staff Members Present: Kelli Shurbet, RN (DON) and Sheila Carter, Secretary. Cinde Ebeling called the meeting of the Plainview -Hale County Board of Health to order at the Unger Memorial Library on March 4th, 2010 at 12:30 P.M. First Item on Agenda: Invocation. Nancy Cox gave the invocation. Second Item on Agenda: Administer Oath of Office. Cinde Ebeling administered Oath of Office to Michael T Carroll. Third Item on Agenda: Approval of minutes from the November 12h, 2009 meeting. There was no correction to the minutes from the November 12th, 2009 meeting. Dr. Ruth -Wright entertained a motion to approve the minutes as written and Don Williams 2na Minutes were approved as written. Fourth item on Agenda: Review of expenditures. Stacie Hardage entertained a motion to approve the September, October, November, December 2009, and January 2010 expenditures as given and Nancy Cox 2nd Expenditures were approved as given. Fifth Item on Agenda: Update and discusses communicable disease reports: Kelli reported that there was an increase in SID'S but some of those may have come from Lubbock to Plainview for testing. October and November is generally high months for SID'S according to reports. Influenza cases were slow and not very many reported during this time. Sixth Item on Agenda: Health Department News. The HPV vaccine is now available for males. Kelli reported that we had gotten the Grant renewal on March 3rd and she finished it on March 4th. We do not have anymore H1N1 vaccine. We will be having free shots every Wednesday in April for children from 2 months thru 4 years. We will be having our back to school free clinic in June this year. We will send out notices to the School's so they can let the students and parents know about this. This will be for children from 4 years old thru 12th grade. Seventh Item on Agenda: Discuss other health concerns the board would like to address. Dr. Miller, Paulette Manning and Libby Howard was present to help discuss the teenage pregnancy rate in Hale County and to discuss how the School could help the Health Board to get information out to the community on Teenage Pregnancy. The main concern is how do we address this problem and what kind of priority do we put on it. Libby Howard said Children are not supervised at home so that is a big problem. M T Carroll said these girls or boys are not getting a good education at home and wondered how much they would understand it if it was taught in the school. M T Carroll said that the parents need to be educated on teenage pregnancy and we need to get out to the parents the importance of what can happen to these young people. Cinde Ebeling said it is all races and ages it is not just one group of people. Dr. Wright said she would like to see the school nurses talk about birth control. Dr Miller said that the School nurse's is still confined to what they can do. The State only pushes absenteeism only. Dr. Wright said she would like to see if we could run some articles in the Newspaper, Radio and maybe the Cable TV. Eighth Item on Agenda: Next proposed meeting will be May 13th, 2010.
