HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-15-2009 Board of Health MinutesBoard of Heath Minutes January 15th, 2009 Board Members Present: Belinda Pena, Neal Burnett, Dr. Ruth Rector -Wright, Cinde Ebeling, Judy Shannon, Nancy Cox, Don Williams, and Gaye Lynn Balzer. Others Present: There were no others present. Staff Members Present: Laura Mason, LVN, John Castro, Director of Community Service, and Sheila Carter Secretary. Neal Burnett called the regular scheduled meeting of the Plainview - Hale County Board of Health meeting to order at the Unger Memorial Library on January 15th, 2009 at 12:30 P.M. First Item on Agenda: Invocation, Was given by Belinda Pena. Second Item on Agenda: Approval of the December 11th, 2008 minutes. Neal Burnett asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes. Cinde Ebeling, made a motion to approve the minutes and Dr. Ruth Rector -Wright second the motion. The minutes were approved as written with no objections. Third Item on Agenda: Review of Expenditures. Neal Burnett asked if there were any questions on the expenditures for November 2008. There were no other questions. Neal Burnett entertained a motion to approve the expenditures. Dr. Ruth -Rector Wright made a motion and Don Williams second it to approve expenditures as given. Fourth item on Agenda: Update and discuss communicable disease reports. Laura Mason reported that there had not been any flu reported yet. Laura asked Dr. Wright if they had any flu cases, She said no. Judy Shannon said they had 1 case in Abernathy. Nancy Cox said they had lots of Strep cases in the school system. Fifth Item on Agenda: Health Department news: Laura reported that there was not anything special going on. Cinde Ebeling, ask about doing the car seat classes in the school but the State has told us that we have to meet in the same place every time. Don Williams said he is concerned about the number of Girls in the High School that were pregnant. We need to be more aggressive about prosecuting the older guys that are fathering these babies. Laura Mason said the first thing she ask these 16 &17 year old girls when they come in for a pregnancy test if they want to be pregnant & you would be surprised at the girls that say yes they want to be, and also the mothers of these girls that get so excited when they find out they are pregnant. John Castro suggested that we should check with other Counties to see what their pregnancy rates are and what they are doing. Sixth Item on Agenda: Other Health concerns the Board would like to address: Neal Burnett thanked the Health Board for taking time out of there schedule to serve the board and the community. He also thanked Kelli, Laura and Sheila for preparing the meals for the Board. Neal said that this was the last meeting for John Castro as he was retiring. Neal thanked John for his time with the City and as director of Community Services and wished him all the best. Seventh item on Agenda: Next proposed meeting: Will be May 14tH 2009.
