Unger Memorial Library Advisory Board met in the basement of the Library with
the following attending: Board members Geoff Wells, Treva James, Albert Torres, and Rita
Cronholm; Joy Denton, president of Hi -Plains Genealogy; Jessica Lloyd, Hale County
Literacy coordinator; Phil Cox president of Friends of UML and John Sigwald, Librarian.
John told those present about some of his current work expanding the number of
computers and number of CD programs in the Reference section. At present he
is adding two computer stations in that area.
John discussed the fact that many years ago when UML had a card catalog where
Juvenile and Adult materials were kept in separate catalogs, guidance materials for Juvenil,
section were all put in adult catalog and some of the books put in adult section of
the library. John would like to return all Juvenile sex education books to the
Juvenile non-fiction section. the library is here to provide information. Age level
materials should all be in the same place. Juvenile includes age appropriate materials
through the 8th grade. City attorney Wally Hatch discussed this matter with John
this morning and did not express objections of the proposal. No objections were
voiced by the Board.
Plainview Daily Herald is allowing UML free access to Internet. At the present time,
we have one computer in the back for staff use to try to learn how to use Internet.
We would need a computer, telephone line and printer to make this service available
to our patrons. John stated he will be asking for budgeted money for this project
in fiscal year 1996-97.
Board adjourned.
