HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-13-1990 Library Board MinutesMINUTES FOR THE UNGER MEMORIAL LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD for Tuesday, February 13, 1990 The Unger Memorial Library Advisory Board was called to order by Librarian John Sigwald at 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, February 13, 1990 in the meeting room in the basement of the Unger Library. Attending were: NJohn Sigwald, Librarian Sherry Akin, President, UML Advisory Board N Pat Kelly, Board member Rita Cronholm, Board member Albert Torres, Board member Geoff Wells, Board member Susan Wilson, former Board member Marka White, former Board member Billie Jameson, President, Friends of the Unger Library Sue Roth, Unger Library staff Sherry Akin presented plaques of appreciation from the Board to Susan Wilson and Marka White, both of whom had served for six years on the Board. Susan, speaking also for Marka, thanked John for his work during the years they served on the Board. Albert Torres and Pat Kelly were welcomed as new members of the Board. Officers were elected for two year terms, 1-90 until 1-92. Rita Cronholm made the motion that Sherry Akin be re-elected President. Geoff Wells moved that this be accepted by acclamation. Rita Cronholm nominated Pat Kelly as Vice-President/Secretary. Geoff Wells moved that nominations cease and Pat be accepted by acclamation. John presented a follow-up on automated periodical indexing, InfoTrac, that had been in the library on a trial basis. Initial expense would be $2-3000 for hardware and software. The annual subscription fee, with monthly updates would be approximately $2000. John presented a memo from City Manager Jim Jeffers that indicated money should be requested for this from Plainview Independent School District as joint funding, as well as requesting additional funds from Hale County. Discussion followed. Sherry Akin inquired regarding the number of county (i.e., in Hale County outside of Plainview) users. John indicated this number could not he determined exactly; however, use of some type of survey could give a percentage of sampling. John also indicated that fees for out -of -county users could be increased. Board members agreed to meet the second Monday of each month at 4:30 p.m. at the library. Samples of a new policy manual that John is working on were distributed and discussed. John would like to send new sheets out to hoard members one week prior to meetings. These could be discussed and changes made at the first meeting after their proposal, with approval and acceptance at the second meeting after proposal. John gave a copy of People's Access to Government Guide and an Unger Memorial Library Volunteer Packet to all present. The annual Friends of the Unger Library book sale was announced for Friday, March 30, and Saturday, March 31, 1990. (Submitted by Sue Roth for Pat Kelly.)
