October 1, 1979
The regular meeting of the Unger Memorial Library Advisory Committee
was called to order at 7:00 P.M., Monday, October 1, 1979, in the Li-
brary Conference Room by Mrs. Merwyn Igo, President. Present were
Ruby Curry, Susan LaFont, Malcolm Tisdel, David Willson, Lloyd Woods,
Charles Bechtold, John Hatchel, City Manager, and Judy Smith, Librarian.
The minutes of the September 10, 1979, meeting were approved as pre-
sented. The Librarian's Report for September was presented.
Miss Smith announced that the Friends of the Library book sale would
be held in the Library Conference Room during National Library Week
in April 1980.
Mr. Hatchel expressed concern about the library's being closed three
mornings per week. Mr. Tisdel moved and Mrs. LaFont seconded that the
hours be extended to open the Library on Thursday mornings. Motion
passed. The Library's hours are now as follows:
Monday, Tuesday 12 Noon - 9 P.M.
Wednesday, Friday, Saturday 9 A.M. - 6 P.M.
Thursday 9 A.M. - 9 P.M.
Mr. Hatchel suggested that Miss Smith submit a list of titles to the
Committee for approval prior to ordering those titles. The Committee
decided to stay with the established policy which makes the Librarian
solely responsible for ordering all materials.
Mrs. Igo brought a request from a patron who asked that the Christmas
books be placed on the main floor. Miss Smith stated that all of the
Christmas books are brought from the mezzanine and placed in special
shelving after Thanksgiving each year. She also stated that the staff
will go upstairs and bring down any Christmas materials requested by
patrons who are unable to negotiate the stairs.
Mrs. Igo announced that the annual meeting of District.9 of the Texas
Library Association will be held Saturday, October 6, 1979 in Kermit.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:05 P.M.
