HomeMy WebLinkAbout05-05-1975 Library Board MinutesUNGER MEMORIAL LIBRARY ADVISORY COMMITTEE May 5, 1975 The regular meeting of the Unger Memorial Library Advisory Committee was called to order by Mrs. Merwyn Igo, President, at 7:15 p. m., Monday, May 5, in the Library Conference Room. Present were Malcolm Tisdel, Susan LaFont, Ruby Curry, Curtis Jones, and Judy Smith, Librarian. The minutes were approved as presented. The librarian's report for April was presented. Miss Smith reported on the library's activities for National Library Week. There were two feature stories and two photographs in the Plainview Daily Herald. The Friends of the Library sponsored an Open House on April 19 and there was also a continuous film showing on that day. Miss Smith was requested to send a thank you letter to the Friends for their sponsorship of the Open House. The Committee then considered the proposed budget request for 1975 - 1976. The proposed budget was approved with corrections as noted. Miss Smith will draft a letter from Mrs. Igo to the Mayor and City Council submitting the bud- get and requesting an audience for a budget hearing. The Committee discussed County budget requests and possible County services. The request should be presented to the Commissioners in July. Miss Smith will ask Mr. Peckham when the budget request should be submitted. Mrs. Igo read a letter from Penny Worley in which she asked for a summer position. Miss Worley will receive her MLS degree from the University of Miss- ouri in August. It was decided to request $1,500 from the County to hire Miss Worley for the summer. The $1,500 would include a salary of $2.35 an hour for 12 weeks and travel expenses. The position will be requested as an outreach program. She would be avail- able to go to Abernathy, Hale Center, and Petersburg to give film showings, tech- nical assistance and any help the libraries might request. Mrs. Curry will call for an appointment with the Commissioners and Miss Smith will compile pertinent statistics, information, and justifications. Mrs. Igo and Miss Smith reported on their trip to Littlefield on May 2. They met with the Lamb County Library Board to advise them on reorganization and their duties and responsibilities. Mrs. Igo announced that the Lubbock Area Library System would meet on Wednes- day, May 7, in Lubbock. She asked for suggestions to strengthen the system.
