HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-07-1975 Library Board MinutesUNDER MEMORIAL LIBRARY ADVISORY COMMITTEE April 7, 1975 The regular meeting of the Unger Memorial Library Advisory Committee was called to order at 7:10 p.m., Monday, April 7, 1975, in the Library Conference Room by Mrs. Merwyn Igo, President. Present were Curtis Jones, Ruby Curry, Malcolm Tisdel, Susan LaFont, and Judy Smith, Librarian. Also present was Phyllis Krentz. The minutes of the March 10, 1975, meeting were approved as presented. The Librarian's report for March was presented. The Committee then considered a request from Phyllis Krentz for use of library facilities for a ceramics class. Miss Smith read a letter from Mrs. Krentz explaining the nature of her class, and the estimated cost to each participant, and her assurance of complying with Library policies. After discussion the Committee agreed to make the library's facilities available to Mrs. Krentz for a ceramics class during National Library Week, April 13-19. It was moved, seconded, and approved that the Library Regulations and Policies be approved as presented. Miss Smith reported on the Library brochure which will go out in the water bills. About half of the envelopes have been stuffed, and the brochures in those envelopes will be mailed in April. The remainder will go out in the May mailing. The Committee then discussed plans for National Library Week. It was decided to drop the plans for a book review since neither Stanley Marcus nor Jane Gilmore Rushing was available to come and there was not sufficient time to secure another author for a review. The Friends of the Library will sponsor Saturday -at -the -Library on Saturday April 19. Coffee, punch and cookies will be served and films will be shown all day. Miss Smith will make arrangements to have an article with a picture on the new microfiche acquisitions and the microfiche readers. Mrs. Curry will write an article on early library users. Miss Smith will try to get a picture of the Mayor signing a National Library Week proclamation. The Committee then discussed the proposed Library budget for 1975-76. Miss Smith will add footnotes to the budget figures and amplify the justifications. UMLAC 4-7-75 Page 2 Miss Smith announced that the theme for this year's Summer Reading Club will be the Liberty Bell. Miss Smith was instructed to draft a letter to the City Council requesting a $1,400 appropriation be added to the book budget for the purchase of children's books. It was announced that Mrs. Igo had been named Library Trustee of the Year 1975, at the Annual Conference of the Texas Library Association in Dallas on April 2. Miss Smith announced that she and Mrs. Igo will address the Library Board of the Lamb County Library at Littlefield on May 2. That Library Board has requested advice on reorganization.
