HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-03-1975 Library Board MinutesUNGER MEMORIAL LIBRARY ADVISORY COMMITTEE February 3, 1975 The regular meeting of the Unger Memorial Library Advisory Committee was called to order by Mrs. Merwyn Igo, President, at 7:25 p. m., Monday, February 3, 1975. Present were Ruby Curry, Susan LaFont, Curtis Jones, Heane Browning, and Judy Smith, Librarian. The minutes from the January 6, 1975, meeting were approved as pre- sented. The librarian's report was presented. Miss Smith presented a list of the members of the House of Representatives Appropriations Commit- tee and requested that the Committee members write these legislators urging their support of the Texas State Library budget request. Mrs. LaFont reported on the Friends of the Library steering committee meeting. The steering committee consists of Suzanne Stovall, Mrs. Henry Heck, Mrs. Jay Campbell, Mrs. Donald Moore, Mrs. Robert Rigler, Mrs. Lee Nowlin, Mrs. LaFont, and Miss Smith. The organizational meeting of the Friends of the Unger Memorial Library will be Tuesday, February 25, at 7:30 p. m. in the Library Conference Room. Miss Smith reported that R.S.V.P. volunteers would publicize the library's homebound services through their telephone contact program. The Library policies were approved as presented with the changes noted. Mrs. Curry and Miss Smith were asked to produce a brochure publicizing the library for National Library Week in April. Miss Smith will request that the brochures be included in the April water bills. The brochure is to contain a map of the library, a map of the library's location, and lists of services and policies. It was moved, seconded, and passed that the Committee accept the check for $375.06 from the former Advisory Committee. The money will be spent for folding chairs for the Conference Room. Miss Smith will draft a letter to Mrs. Nowlin from the Committee accepting the money and thanking the former Advisory Committee. The letter will also state that all former Advisory Committee records will be given to the Llano Estacado Museum. The Committee decided to request additional funds from the city for books. $1,400 will be requested for business materials in March, with $1,400 to be requested in May for children's books, and $1,400 to be re- quested in July for bicentennial materials. The Committee will also re- quest funds for one range of shelving. Mr. Jones drafted letters to Ray Farabee, Pete Laney, and Bill Clayton requesting their support for Texas State Library funding. Miss Smith will draft a letter to the members of the House Appropriations Committee urging their support for the Texas State Library. Miss Smith will have the letters ready for signing Thursday at noon. It was announced that there will be a page of library publicity in the Plainview Daily Herald on February 23.
