HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-06-1975 Library Board MinutesUNGER MEMORIAL LIBRARY ADVISORY COMMITTEE January 6, 1975 The regular meeting of the Unger Memorial Library Advisory Committee was called to order by Mrs. Merwyn Igo, President, at 7:00 p. m. Monday, January 6, 1975, in the Library Conference Room. Present were Mrs. Hoyt Curry, Mrs. Bill LaFont, Curtis Jones, Malcolm Tisdel, and Judy Smith, Librarian. The minutes of the December 2, 1974, meeting were approved as presented. Miss Smith presented the Librarian's report for December. A proposed policy for taking books to shut-ins was discussed. It was moved, seconded, and approved that the Committee adopt the policy. Miss Smith was authorized to prepare press and radio releases for publicizing the service to shut-ins. It was decided that letters should be sent to directors of nurs- ing homes in Plainview and Hale Center, Christian Manor, and Pink Ladies de- scribing the service and inviting their participation. Mrs. Igo inquired about the hold -over funds from the former Executive Board. Miss Smith replied that she had not been notified of their decision as to the disbursement of those funds. Mrs. Igo will contact Mrs. Nowlin to inquire about the status of the funds. Discussion was then held on library policies. The Committee studied the existing policies and made necessary revisions. Miss Smith will present a copy of the revised policies for approval at the February meeting. Discussion was held on the organization of the Friends of the Unger Memorial Library. Mrs. LaFont reported that she had talked with several in- terested individuals who would be willing to serve as a steering committee. The Committee suggested that the following might be contacted to serve on the Friends steering committee: Suzanne Stovall, Mrs. Donald Moore, Mrs. Jones Goode, Mrs. Jan Hamilton, Thelma Cave, Mrs. Jay Campbell, Mrs. Chuck Church - well, and Mrs. Henry Heck. Mrs. LaFont was designated as the Committee's representative to the Friends committee, and she will contact individuals to serve on the steering committee. Mrs. Igo will contact Betty Arper from the Lubbock City -County Library to see ff she will speak to the steering committee. The meeting was adjourned at 9:40 p. m.
