HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-21-1974 Library Board MinutesUNGER MEMORIAL LIBRARY ADVISORY COMMITTEE August 21, 1974 The first meeting of the Unger Memorial Library Advisory Committee 'was called to order by Judy Smith at 4:40 p.m. on August 21, 1974, in the Library Conference Room. Present were Committee members Jim Servatius, Ruby Curry, and Curt Jones and Librarian, Judy Smith. It was moved and seconded that the Librarian serve as secretary to the Committee. The motion was approved unanimously. Nominations were opened for president and vice president of the Advisory Committee. Nominees were Mrs. Igo for president and Mrs. Curry for vice president. It was moved and seconded that the nomina- tions cease. The motion carried unanimously. The nominees were elected unanimously. The Committee decided not to take action on setting a regular meeting time until the other Committee members could be present. The next meeting was set for September 16th at 12:00 noon in the Library Conference Room. The Committee will study the proposed 1974-75 Budget at that time and consider any recommendations to be made to the City Council. Discussion was held on the purposes and advantages of a Friends of the Library group. It was moved and seconded that the Committee endorse the organization of a Friends of the Library group for Unger Memorial Library. Committee members were presented with copies of sample by-laws, .budget requests, past budget figures, a chart showing the total library budgets and book budgets since 1966, charts of current book UNGER MEMORIAL LIBRARY ADVISORY COMMITTEE August 22, 1974 Page 2 and periodical prices, the monthly report for July 1974, and a copy of the Library Consultant's report on library services. Discussion was held on the Library Budget chart (see attached). It was noted that the library's book budget has dropped from $7,700 in 1966-67 to $6,000 in 1973-74, while the average price of books has risen from $8.77 in 1967-69 to $12.20 in 1973. There was discussion on the responsibilities and authority of the Committee.
