October 13, 2015
Present were Board members Joe Ed Sullivan and Stephanie James. Also present was Renee Williams who is the
new President of the Hi -Plains Genealogical Society.
John informed the Board that the terms of Melissa Wilkinson and Stephanie James would be expiring soon.
Stephanie James agreed to serve on the Board for a second four-year term, therefore leaving one place vacant.
The Board was informed about the work being done on the cemetery data base records to get them updated
and to add new ones.
It was mentioned that several library supporters had recently passed away. John pointed out that the new clock
in the main library area was a memorial for one of them.
John encouraged those present to be sure and meet the new employee at the front desk, Rebecca Hall, if they
hadn't already done so. Rebecca started working at the library in June.
The new shelving used to house the adult DVD collection was mentioned. More DVDs had been added to the
collection since there was more space. The juvenile DVDs are now in separate shelving with room to grow on
the backside, which at this time is flush against the front window.
John presented an overview of the budget for Fiscal Year 2015-2016. He told the Board that one project was to
replace the drinking fountain in the basement.
John mentioned the new open -carry gun law that takes effect in January 2016. He scanned over some of the
information that he gleaned from the State Library which said that public libraries were not exempt from this
law. That anyone who carried a Concealed Handgun License (CHL) and had a gun secured in a holster could
legally bring the gun into the library. Those present voiced some concerns with this law, but hoped it would not
become a situational problem. More information should be available soon about this law.
On Saturday, October 10, the Friends of the Unger Memorial Library had their second Fall Book Sale in which
were sold paperbacks and hardcover fiction books to assist in making more room for further donations made
during the year in preparation for their main book sale in March.
The meeting was dismissed at 4:40 pm.
The next Library Board meeting is scheduled for February 9, 2016.
