Present were Board Member Melissa Wilkinson, outgoing Genealogical Society
President Carolyn Courtney, and WTLS Lay Representative Lucile Davis.
John Sigwald made a copy of the Public Library Advisory Board Handbook
available to Board members. He informed others this information was also
available online if anyone would like to see it.
John Sigwald reiterated that the West Texas Library System (WTLS) will be
shutting down its services in August 2012 due to State funding cuts. Therefore,
the limited local funding to the libraries WTLS serviced will also be cut.
However, the formation of the West Texas Library Group, Inc. (WTLG) is in
process and the Group is working on starting an independent library system and
hope to provide similar services as WTLS, but on a smaller scale, and with no
extra funding provided.
Attending this year's Texas Library Convention in Houston were John Sigwald,
Debbie Carlton, and Regina Lucio.
Summer Reading Club is in June. Programs are being scheduled.
Quilt display is available through the month of May.
RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program) is moving into Unger Library's
basement. Their former offices are no longer available to them. Book sale
spaces have been rerouted. This procedure has been used in the past when the
Literacy Council was stationed in the basement.
Meeting was dismissed at 4:55.
Next meeting is October 8, 2012.
