October 11, 2011
Present were Board members Sharon Morgan and Kenna Hatch; City Assistant
Manager Jeffrey Snyder; Lay Representative Lucile Davis; and upcoming new
member Stephanie James.
Sharon Morgan will be completing her duties on the Board on December 13.
Steve Martinez's duties will be completed on December 31.
John introduced Stephanie James who will join the Board in January 2012.
Names of other possible members were David Barrett and Melissa Wilkinson.
John will contact these two to find out whether or not they would be interested in
becoming Library Board members.
This is the final year for the Library System. Funding by the State has really
been cut.
John explained the new computer -use policy stating that the patrons must
present a library card or current ID (visitors and card applicants). The patrons
are assigned a time slot for one hour with exceptions made for those working on
school assignments or job applications or resumes. The Board members had no
objection to requiring a library card for computer use.
John went over the projected 2011-2012 Library Budget. It is about the same as
previous years. However, the Loan Star Grant will no longer be available.
The Fall of 2012 will be the centennial mark for the public library. John would like
to host an Open House at this time to commemorate the occasion. By then the
lighting updates, window project, and repainting the exterior should all be
completed.
John and Jerry Serrano have been getting the genealogy collection catalogued
according to Unger Memorial Library's own creative system.
The staff has been short-handed. Jerry Serrano has move to Lubbock to work in
another library and Liz Rivera Flores is on maternity leave until November 7. The
three remaining staff members are filling in gaps where needed.
Meeting was dismissed at 4:45 pm.
Next meeting is the second Tuesday in February.
