May 10, 2011
Present were members Sharon Morgan, Kenna Hatch, and
Genealogical Society President Carol Courtney.
Attending the Texas Library Conference in Austin were John,
Donna, and Liz. Jerry and Debbie remained behind to keep the
library running.
The fall will bring a staffing shortage situation when Liz is out
with her new baby which is due in August.
John explained that he was working on the budget for 2011-2012
fiscal year. The budget would then be presented to the new
Assistant City Manager Jeffrey Snyder who has taken over some
of John Castro's duties, including overseeing some of the
individual departments such as Unger Library.
While talking about the budget, John told those present that next
year the Loan Star Grant of about $8200 would no longer be
available from the State due to its budget cuts. However, he will
request a budget increase in the book account to help "beef up"
the shelf list with new books or newer editions. Weeding of older
books or books that have not circulated well has been
completed, leaving room for other additions.
John reminded the Board that after repairs being covered by a
grant are finished, he wants to hold an open house.
There is still an empty position on the Board. John suggested
Stephanie James who is employed at the Hale County Extension
Office and helps with their educational programs. She also has
assisted with our Summer Reading Programs in June the last two
years and plans on helping with Pre -School Storytime on
Wednesday mornings.
Summer Reading Club in June will be a little different this year.
The Library's programs are scheduled on M-W-F. The Amo Leer
Bilingual Reading Programs, which are on Tuesday evenings right
now, will continue on T-T mornings through June.
Dismissal was at 4:45.
Next meeting will be in October.
