HomeMy WebLinkAbout09-13-2005 Library Board MinutesSeptember 13, 2005 4 pm UML Advisory Board met in the basement of the library with the following in attendance: President David Isaacson, City of Plainview Community Services Director John Castro, board member Sharon Morgan, Friends of UML President Marsha Birdsong, Hi -Plains Genealogical Society President Linda Reed and Librarian John Sigwald. John reported that the 2005 Summer Reading Club held in June was very successful with total attendance of 1731. John explained that staff changes have been made recently with Ben leaving, Lisa Landeros was hired, but her husband was transferred to Oklahoma so she left and newest employee is Donna Waugh. He indicated that the library is having more people and they need more help than ever before. Computer classes will be held soon with HC Jr LC members tutoring individuals. John explained that one computer is down at this time and he is in the process of getting it replaced. John explained that his requests for coming (2005-06) FY include: replacement of all 10 Internet computers and the two computers at the front desk -all will be faster and better ; automated defibrillator—staff will need to have training ; building new permanent DVD collection -no R rating or above ; commercial type disc repair machine. John told the board that state requirements for a flex -hose to be replaced every 6 years on the elevator will add nearly $1000. to the cost of elevator maintenance in the next fiscal year. A Loan Star Grant has been applied for—it should be for approx. $3200. and plans are to purchase a new type of library patron borrowing card—these would include a card and keychain card with barcode printed on them. Patron numbers will be changed to avoid overlap of patron and title barcode numbers. John told those present that there will be two board openings in January since Caroline Kopp has moved to Lubbock and David Isaacson is finishing his second term. Next meeting will be held on the second Tuesday of December. Meeting was adjourned.
