Unger Memorial Library Advisory Board met in the basement of the
Library with the following in attendance: Board Members David
Isaacson, Sharon Morgan and Hayley Cox ; HCLC Coordinator Phyllis
Wall ; WTLS lay rep. Lucile Davis ; Friends of UML president Marsha
Birdsong and Librarian John Sigwald.
John talked about Caroline Kopp going off the Board as she is moving
to Lubbock. Her term would be over the end of 2005.
He showed a plaque for her as this was to be her last meeting;
however, she had to go out of town and was not able to attend..
David explained that Board member Kathy Azua would not be at the
meeting today as she was in Lubbock. Her husband has been deployed
again to Afghanistan. John showed an article in the Plainview Daily
Herald about Kathy and her family.
John, Sue and Rebecca attended TLA in Austin April 5-8. There are
100's of vendors and John explained that direct contact with vendors
helps him "Get things done" faster than dealing with various phone
support people.
John told about ALA Midwinter in Boston that he attended. He is on a
committee -Selected DVD's for Young Adult. He will attend ALA in
Chicago this summer.
John said UML received a $2500. grant from Texas Book Festival. This
will be used to fill-in various serials in the library.
Amnesty Week was a'success. Several items were returned. The
oldest item had been out since July 1982.
Wireless Internet access is now available at UML. John showed a
picture of he and David using it—picture was in Plainview Daily Herald.
John talked about fines and maximum fines that were changed per
recent City Ordinance. Temporary items were not specifically
mentioned in that ordinance. John is checking on this with City Hall.
Meeting was adjourned.
