Unger Memorial Library Advisory Board met in the basement of the Library
with the following in attendance: Maisie Jones and Barbara Green, Library
Board members; John Castro, Director of Community Services for the City of
Plainview; Phil Cox, president of Friends of Library; Joy Denton, president
of Hi -Plains Genealogical Society and John Sigwald, Librarian.
John Sigwald gave information to those attending regarding the following:
Business After Hours sponsored by the Plainview Chamber of Commerce, Unger
Library and Doug Kopp will be held in the Library on Thursday, March 27, 1997
from 5 to 6:30 pm. Doug Kopp is covering expenses and Caroline Kopp will
coordinate this event. approximately 10 volunteers will be needed to help
serve refreshments. Joy Denton is to recruit people from the Friends of UML
and Hi -Plains Genealogical to help. Debby Gibson is to contact three volunteers
from her high school volunteer group to help also.
Friends of UML Annual meeting will be held March 25, 1997 at 7pm in the basement
of the Library.
Friend of UML Annual Book Sale will be held on Friday, April 4, 1997 from 2
to 6 pm and on Saturday, April 5, 1997 from 9am to 4pm.
Texas Library Assn. meeting will be held in Fort Worth April 8-12, 1997.
John, Sue and possibly Debby plan to attend. It was agreed not to have a
Board Meeting in April.
West Texas Library System meeting will be held March 13, 1997. It will
include a workshop on Internet policy_ John plans to attend_
Unger Library will begin doing its own Interlibrary Loan soon. Texas Library
System will underwrite expense, at least for now. Sue will need to attend
a 2 -day workshop in Dallas some time in late summer_ More details later.
Nena Montelongo is no longer with the library. Ad started today in Plainview
Herald for a replacement . (Library assistant position).
Fiscal year budget requests for 1997-1998 will go in to John Castro by April 1,
1997. John will furnish copies to Board at a later date.
A Green Thumb worker is to start working 22 hours per week at Unger Library.
There is no expense to the library. All salary will be paid by the Green
Thumb program_ the library is not obligated for any monies or any specific
length of time.
