HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-14-1997 Library Board Minutes1-14-97 4 pm Unger Memorial Library Advisory Board met in the basement of the Library with the following in attendance: Geoff Wells, Barbara Green and Rita Cronholm, (Board members); Joy Denton, President of High Plains Genealogical Society,; Lucile Davis, WTLS lay representative; John Castro, Director of Community Services for the City of Plainview; Debby Gibson, Hale County Literacy coordinator; Rey Rosas, Plainview City Council liaison; and Librarian John Sigwald. John told those present that the Open House held at the Library on December 4, 1996 was attended by approx. 150 people. Librarian John Sigwald was on the "Talk to Your City" program last night (Monday, January 13, 1997) with Mayor Lloyd Woods_ John is to give information from the Library's annual report to the City Council at their meeting tonight. It should be televised on Channel 6, MOnday, January 20, 1997. John attended a "Defending the Right to KNow" workshop in Austin in December_ sponsored by the Texas Library Assn, Texas Freedom Network, and American Library Association's Office for Intellectual Freedom. There wer several outstanding speakers at the conference. Participants in the workshop were encouraged to host regional and local programs highlighting the dangers of censorship in a free society. John is to attend American Library Association Midwinter Conference in Washington DC February 14-17, 1997. Some discussion was held regarding the Unger Library Home Page on the World Wide Web. All feedback was positive_ Meeting was adjourned_
