HomeMy WebLinkAbout09-10-1996 Library Board Minutes9-10-96 4 pm Unger Memorial Library Advisory Board met in the basement of the Library with the following in attendance: Board members Barbara Green, Maisie Jones, Rita Cronholm and Caroline Kopp; Friends of UML president Phil Cox ; City of Plainview Director of Community Services John Castro, City Engineer Ches Carthel, and Librarian John Sigwald_ WTLS lay representative Lucile Davis and Hale County Literacy Council coordinator Debby Gibson also attended the meeting_ John Sigwald explained that the new carpet is in and the painting finished_ Two young men hired through MET for the summer did a great deal of the wall painting and Danny Davis (a professional painter) was hired to do the stairwell, tile, door at foyer, bookdrop, and offices. Many compliments have been received on the new "look"_ John Castro introduced City Engineer Ches Carthel_ Ches attended this meeting to hear Board members feelings regarding library maintenance_ He indicated that the Library is no worse than other City buildings. Discussion followed with indications that things will continue as they have been_ John Sigwald told that City Council will have budget hearing tonight and it should pass --Library book budget will increase by $500.--$800. is in budget for a new book charger (ours is getting old and they are no longer being made, so we need to get a new one (reconditioned) while we can as it is a vital part of our circulation system) --capital items for the Library include money for a new microfiche reader/printer and second INTERNET computer. Junior SErvice League gave the Library $700. this year for CD-ROM drives for the reference area computers. Phil Cox complimented John on the INTERNET webpage setup saying it makes using the INTERNET much easier_ John announced that Carol Schulz Smith has replaced Toney Lynch at the front desk. John Sigwald attended as part of his duties Debby Gibson reminded 1996 from 10am to 2pm Meeting was adjourned. Texas Library Association meeting in Austin in July as a member of the Bluebonnet Committee. everyone of the Literacy Fair to be held on October 5, at the 011ie Liner Center.
