Unger Memorial Library Advisory Board met in the basement of
the Library with the following in attendance: Board members
Geoff Wells, Maisie Jones and David Isaacson; Friends of UML
Presidents Phil and Nancy Cox; and Librarian John Sigwald.
Board members questioned John regarding any further problems
with patron regarding adult audio -tapes. He stated that he
had heard nothing else from the gentleman.
John said the annual report is being sent to Texas State Library
to maintain WTLS membership. The Library gets state and
federal funding in this manner.
John showed some news articles that Jim Jeffers, City Manager, had
forwarded to him. One of those was from Waco indicating that the
Library there sent overdue letters to patrons and those who did not
respond had warrants issued against them.
Maisie asked about Unger having an Amnesty Day regarding fines.
Other Board members felt this would be a good idea. John said we
had not had an Amnesty Day in quite a while and he would look into
having one.
John attended Bluebonnet Committee meeting in Austin recently.
His term on this Committee will expire in April 1999.
John announced -that Texas Book Festival will be held in Austin
this coming weekend.
The Library will sponsor a Blood Drive at the Library on Wednesday,
November 25, 1998.
John explained that Board Members can become members of Texas
Library Association for $15. year.
John mentioned an article from the USA Weekend on Sunday,
November 8, 1998 regarding success searching the Internet. He
has contacted the author, Bruce. Maxwell by e -Mail and heard back
from him. We have ordered the two books written by Maxwell
on How to Find Health Information and Access the Federal Government
on the Internet.
It was agreed that the Board will not meet in December. The next
Board meeting will be January 12, 1999.
Several of those present inquired about the annual Library Party (Christmas)
and were pleased that one will be held. Exact time and place
are not available, but everyone will be notified as soon as the
details can be worked out.
