HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-11-2010 Parks Advisory Board MinutesPARK ADVISORY COMMISSION BOARD MEETING MINUTES The City of Plainview Park Advisory Board, as appointed by City Ordinance Number 95-3035, dated, as approved, March 28, 1995, held an open meeting Thursday, March 11, 2010, in the Council Chambers, 901 Broadway Street, Plainview, Texas. Minutes for this meeting are hereby submitted as follows. ITEM 1. Called to order by chair Lucile Davis at 4:38 P.M. 2. Invocation given by Carlene Kirby. 3. Members present were: Lucile Davis, Ruby Riggins, Carlene Kirby, Joani Chapman, and Phyllis Wall 4. Members absent were: Gabriel Rodriguez, Barbara Ramirez and vacancy 5. Guests present: None 6. City Staff present was: Rusty Reese, Park Superintendent 7. February 11, 2010 meeting minutes were given by Lucile Davis and approved as read. 8. Old Business: A. 2010 Park Improvements. After discussion of each proposed projects; skateboard park, dog park, fishing pond, and practice baseball/softball fields, a motion was made by Phyllis Wall and seconded by Carlene Kirby to construct two practice fields with backstops, grass, and irrigation systems as needed to provide a safe playing surface in the Regional Running Water Draw Park in the area along Kirchwood Street. Motion passed with four (4) in favor (Lucile Davis, Carlene Kirby, Phyllis Wall, and Joani Chapman) and one (1) opposed (Ruby Riggins). B. Arbor Day. Rusty told members that there is a tree suitable for transplant in the City Tree Farm and that Broadway Park could use an additional tree. Carlene Kirby made a motion and seconded by Ruby Riggins to plant a tree in Broadway Park in honor of Arbor Day. Motion passed unanimously. Further discussions were that Phyllis Wall is to visit with Roberts Tree House to assist the Board in bringing attention to Arbor Day and Joani Chapman is to begin research and develop ideas for elementary school curriculum for next year. 9. New Business: None. 10. Open meeting for comments and questions. Phyllis Wall told members and Rusty that Plainview is having their all school reunion July 30, 31, and August 1st and that Plainview will be hosting a lot of visitors back to Plainview and the parks will be used and seen by many and that it would be nice if all the parks were groomed. Rusty commented that we would do all we could and that the City of Plainview no longer has access to inmate labor. 11. Next meeting set for June 10, 2010. 12. Meeting adjourned at 5:40 P.M.
