HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-10-2013 Parks Advisory Board MinutesPARK ADVISORY COMMISSION BOARD MEETING MINUTES October 10, 2013 The City of Plainview Park Advisory Board, as appointed by City Ordinance Number 95-3035, dated, as approved, March 28, 1995, held an open meeting Thursday, October 10, 2013 in the Council Chambers, 901 Broadway Street, Plainview, Texas. Minutes for this meeting are hereby submitted as follows. ITEM 1. Called to order by chair Lucile Davis at 4:37 P.M. 2. Invocation given by Ruby Riggins. 3. Members present were: Lucile Davis, Phyllis Wall, Carlene Kirby, Ruby Riggins and Gabriel Rodriguez 4. Members absent were: Joani Chapman, Barbara Ramirez and vacancy 5. Guests present: none 6. City Staff present was: Rusty Reese, Park Superintendent 7. Approval of minutes for May 9, 2013. Minutes approved as read. 8. Old Business: A. Park improvements 2013. Rusty told members that the parks crew had constructed 10 ADA ramps; two(2) in Broadway Park, two (2) in Givens, two (2) in Woods, two (2) at RRWD and one (1) each in Thomas and Chamber of Commerce Park. Rusty continued stating that the remaining funds were expended on material for the covered picnic shelter metal, tin, welding rods, paint, etc. and that construction of the shelter in the very near future. B. M.B. Hood restroom. Rusty told members that he had contacted CXT Building for a price estimate on a double unit flush restroom that was completely ready for use with light, fixtures complete and set up at site in the amount of $53,162.95. Rusty continued to state this price does not include electrical, sewer and foundation requirements. Rusty stated that this could add an additional $25,000 to the total for a total of up to $75,000 to $80,000. 9. New Business: Park Improvements 2014 A. Rusty told members that funding for improvements this year were the same and please be considering, how and what they wanted to invest in this year. Rusty continued by stating that he had a request to determine the cost of a rock climbing play structure like the one in Arlington Park. Rusty stated that he found the structure was produced in Denmark and that Arlington advised against this structure due to historical difficulties with service and parts. Rusty went on to say that the structure cost from $25,000 to $30,000 and that if the Board was interested, there are others comparable with similar structures in this price range. 10. Open meeting for comments and questions. Phyllis asked when we would start revising the Parks Comprehensive Plan now that the City's plan had been adopted. Rusty stated that we need to get started on revising soon and the Board members were presented a copy of the City's Park and revisions plan for members review. 11. Next meeting January 9, 2014 12.
