HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-05-2014 Parks Advisory Board MinutesPARK ADVISORY COMMISSION BOARD MEETING MINUTES April 5, 2014 The City of Plainview Park Advisory Board, as appointed by City Ordinance Number 95-3035, dated, as approved, March 28, 1995, held an open meeting Saturday, April 5, 2014 at the First Christin Church, 1800 N I-27, Plainview, Texas 79072. Minutes for this meeting are hereby submitted as follows. ITEM 1. Called to order by chair Lucile Davis at 1:30 P.M. 2. Oath of Office of Joani Chapman 3. Members present were: Lucile Davis, Phyllis Wall, Joani Chapman, Barbara Ramirez and Carlene Kirby 4. Members absent were: Gabriel Rodriguez and Ruby Riggins 5. Guests present: City Council Member, Susan Blackerby 6. City Staff present: Rusty Reese, Park Superintendent 7. Public Hearing; Parks Comprehensive Plan: Statement read by Lucille Davis 8. Old Business: Park Comprehensive Plan. Lucile Davis opened the floor for discussion. Phyllis Wall made a recommendation to add a sand volleyball court to one of the Parks. Due to water shortage and the drought, several members thought it would be a great asset to the parks. This matter was table for discussion at a later date. Susan Blackerby asked about the Skateboard Park. Rusty Reese explained that the design of the Skateboard Park was in place and the location of the Park will be next to the Girl Scout Building on 61h and Joliet. Rusty further explained that Jeffrey Snyder was in contact with two skate board companies and were waiting on a cost estimate. Susan Blackerby wanted to know if restrooms were going to be added at some of the parks. Rusty Reese stated that the restrooms at 16111 Street Park was in the Comprehensive Plan. The Board would like to receive input regarding the proposed improvements to the parks from the citizens. Susan Blackerby expressed her concerns regarding some of the wooden statues seen throughout the City of Plainview. She felt the statues on 5`1' Street did not add anything and should be moved to another location. Rusty Reese stated the statues were donated and they cannot be moved or taken down. 9. Next Board Meeting set for April 15, 2014 from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. at the Broadway Park Shelter House. 10.
