HomeMy WebLinkAbout74 0226 minMINUTES CITY COUNCIL EMERGENCY MEETING February 26, 1974 The City Council of the City of Plainview met in special emergency meeting at 5:25 p.m. to discuss the immediate resignation of Municipal Court Judge, Roger McMurry, as submitted on the 26th day of February~ 1974, at 5:05 p.m. Mayor John D. Stoneham presided and the following Aldermen were present: Keltz Garrison, Medlin Carpenter, Neal Williams, Richard Cross, and Jack Oswald. Also present were Marshall Pharr-City Manager, Johnnie Ballew~Director-of Public Safety, and Lt. Tom St~phens-Plainview Police Department. Mayor Stoneham read the letter of resignation from Mr. McMurry. It was moved by Alderman Carpenter, seconded by Alderman Garrison, to accepttthe immediate resignation of Roger McMurry as Municipal Court Judge. Motion carried ~nanimously. The Mayor requested that the Council go into executive session to discuss personnel matters at 5:36.p.m. The Council came out of executivessession at 6:02 p.m. and reconvened the emergency meeting. The following action was made concerning Mr. McMurry: "The City Council recommends that the Hale County Sheriff's Department continue with investigation and take any action appropriate". It was moved by Alderman Garrison, seconded by Alderman Carpenter, to adopt the precedi~g~ statement. Motion carried unanimously. Discussion was held with Lt. Tom Stephens to see if he would accept the position of Acting Municipal Judge. It was moved by Alderman Williams, seconded by Alderman Oswald, to appoint Lt. Tom Stephens as Acting Municipal Court Judge for the City of Plainview. ~MINUTES CITY COUNCIL EMERGENCY MEETING February 26, 1974 Page 2 It was moved by Alderman Carpenter, seconded by Alderman Garrison~ to adjourn.
